Travis Hunter: It's 'Super Important' for Me to Be No. 1 Pick in 2025 NFL Draft

Doric SamFeb 27, 2025

The Tennessee Titans have a tough choice to make with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, but Colorado two-way phenom Travis Hunter made it clear that he's hoping to have the honor of hearing his name called first.

"It's super important to go No. 1," Hunter told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday. "My dream was to go No. 1 and be the best I can be."

Hunter faces some stiff competition, as Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter also advocated to be the No. 1 pick while speaking to reporters on Wednesday, saying, "I feel like I'm the best player in the country, and the best player should be selected No. 1." There's also a chance that the Titans are eyeing a quarterback and could choose Miami's Cam Ward or Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.

However, Hunter presents a skillset that has never been seen in the NFL before, with the capability to play as both a wide receiver and a cornerback. He said on Thursday that he wants to play "100 percent" of the snaps on both offense and defense in the NFL, but he knows "it’s up to the organization" that drafts him. When questioned about whether he can excel on both sides of the ball at the professional level, he proclaimed, "I'm just different."

Hunter won the 2024 Heisman Trophy in his final season at Colorado after recording 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns with a rushing touchdown on offense and 32 tackles, 11 passes defended, four interceptions and a forced fumble on defense.

It remains to be seen if Hunter will get the chance to make a similar impact in the NFL, but it's clear that he's confident that he's the right player to be the No. 1 pick in this year's draft.
