Abdul Carter Posts Darth Vader Meme Amid Foot Injury: 'You Can't Stop Greatness'

Joseph ZuckerFeb 27, 2025

Penn State edge-rusher Abdul Carter appears to have two passions: playing football and sharing a photo of Darth Vader in a bacta tank.

Drew Rosenhaus, Carter's agent, told Adam Schefter on Wednesday that the Nittany Lions star is dealing with a stress reaction in his right foot. On Thursday, Carter seemingly alluded to the injury when he posted a pic of Darth Vader resting in his recuperative pod.

He added that "You can't stop GREATNESS!" and pointed to the date of Penn State's pro day:

Carter used the same photo in January when a shoulder injury jeopardized his availability for the Orange Bowl. He ultimately suited up against Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinals, finishing with five total tackles and one sack.

Rosenhaus initially told Schefter that surgery was one possible option to repair Carter's stress fracture. The procedure would've ruled him out for around eight weeks, thus making him unavailable for Penn State's pro day.

Schefter followed up Thursday to report that "surgery is not advisable" on the basis of further medical scans.

The unanimous All-American is the No. 2 overall player on Bleacher Report's big board behind Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter. B/R NFL scout Matt Holder compared him to Odafe Oweh, who's coming off a 10-sack season with the Baltimore Ravens.

"Carter is an elite athlete, which gives him a high ceiling as a pass-rusher at the next level," Holder said. "His get-off is very impressive as he explodes off the line of scrimmage and can win with speed around the edge when times up the snap. Also, he's shown a decent dip-rip move and the potential to develop a stick move as an inside counter with his movement skills."

Carter was projected to go second overall to the Cleveland Browns in B/R's most recent mock.
