Alex Ovechkin Odds Released for Team He'll Break Wayne Gretzky's NHL Record Against

Julia StumbaughFeb 26, 2025

The odds are in for which opponent will allow Alex Ovechkin's historic 895th goal.

Now that Ovechkin is 12 goals away from passing Wayne Gretzky for the most career goals in NHL history, DraftKings SportsBook has released the odds as to which team is going to let in the record-breaking marker.

Here's a look at which Washington Capitals opponents have been pegged as most likely to allow No. 895.

Odds courtesy of DraftKings

New York Islanders +350

Columbus Blue Jackets +350

Carolina Hurricanes +350

Chicago Blackhawks +800

Pittsburgh Penguins +900

Boston Bruins +1000

Buffalo Sabres +1100

Minnesota Wild +1400

Winnipeg Jets +1600

Florida Panthers +2000

Philadelphia Flyers +3000

Detroit Red Wings +4000

San Jose Sharks +7500

Los Angeles Kings +15000

The Capitals have 24 games remaining in the 2024-25 regular season.

Ovechkin scored his 30th goal of the season against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday despite being held to just 42 games this season after missing a month with a broken leg.

At that scoring rate of at least one goal every two games, Ovechkin is currently on pace to break Gretzky's record by the end of the season.

Here's an overview of the Capitals' schedule over the final five weeks of the regular season.

Capitals 2024-25 Regular Season Schedule, Last Five Weeks

March 13 @ Los Angeles Kings

March 15 @ San Jose Sharks

March 18 vs. Detroit Red Wings

March 20 vs. Philadelphia Flyers

March 22 vs. Florida Panthers

March 25 @ Winnipeg Jets

March 27 @ Minnesota Wild

March 30 vs. Buffalo Sabres

April 1 @ Boston Bruins

April 2 @ Carolina Hurricanes

April 4 vs. Chicago Blackhawks

April 6 @ New York Islanders

April 10 vs. Carolina Hurricanes

April 12 @ Columbus Blue Jackets

April 13 vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

April 15 @ New York Islanders

April 17 @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Oddsmakers are giving Ovechkin good odds of breaking the record in one of two games played against the Islanders over the final stretch of the season.

The Blue Jackets also get strong odds thanks to a late home-and-home set against the Caps.

The Hurricanes also face the Capitals twice down this stretch. Both the Jackets and Canes could have plenty to play for in those four contests as they fight for their spots in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

The Blackhawks and Penguins have been granted favorable odds, likely both because of where they sit in the Capitals' schedule and their overall struggles to stop opponents from scoring this season.

The steepest odds go to the Kings, which would give Ovechkin just eight games to score the required 12 goals. The Capitals captain would likely need another repeat of the hat trick he notched Sunday against the Edmonton Oilers if he is looking to celebrate the milestone within two weeks.

The NHL is meanwhile hedging its own bets on when Ovechkin will score the record-breaking goal.

The March 27 game against the Wild, April 12 game against the Blue Jackets and April 17 regular-season finale against the Penguins have all been given expanded broadcasts amid the record buzz, the Capitals announced on Tuesday.
