The NHL's first Stadium Series game in Ohio will take place on Saturday with the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets playing at Ohio Stadium.
On Tuesday, the NHL released the first renderings of what The Horseshoe will look like for the marquee matchup.
The NHL originally announced that Ohio State's football stadium would host a game during the 2024-25 season in February 2024.
This marks the Stadium Series debut for the Blue Jackets. The Red Wings' only previous appearance was in February 2016 when they defeated the Colorado Avalanche at Coors Field.
Ohio Stadium is the fifth college football stadium to host an NHL game. Past sites include TCF Bank Stadium, Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Falcon Stadium and Carter–Finley Stadium.
In addition to the high-profile nature of playing a Stadium Series game, there's a lot riding on this matchup for both the Red Wings and Blue Jackets. Detroit is currently the top wild card team in the Eastern Conference with 64 points.
The Blue Jackets are tied with the Ottawa Senators for the second wild card spot in the East with 62 points. Ottawa currently has the tiebreaker, but those two teams will play three times in the span of 11 days from March 29 through April 8.
Columbus and Detroit will play twice this week, with the first meeting on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings already hold a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jackets back on Jan. 2.
The Stadium Series matchup between the Red Wings and Blue Jackets will be played on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
