Daniel Jeremiah: Ashton Jeanty's 'Comp Is the Plinko Chip from The Price Is Right'

Joseph ZuckerFeb 24, 2025

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network had a unique way to describe Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

"I think he's clearly one of the 10 best players in the draft," Jeremiah said to The MMQB's Albert Breer. "I don't think he's as polished in terms of pass catching that Saquon [Barkley] was coming out or Bijan [Robinson] coming out. He's not as big as those guys. He is as gifted as a runner. His contact balance is as good as anyone I've ever seen. When I was looking for comps, his comp is the plinko chip from The Price Is Right. Guys just bounce off him. He keeps going.

"He's got vision, burst, balance. All that stuff is elite. When you get all that background stuff in terms of intelligence, work ethic, all that stuff is off the charts. He's a great kid."

For those who aren't well-versed in the various offerings on The Price Is Right, "Plinko" sees the player drop a chip from the top of a board. Gravity does the rest of the work as the disc bounces off multiple pegs before reaching the bottom.

One look at Jeanty's highlight reel and it's easy to see why Jeremiah saw parallels with the legendary game show.

Jeremiah also downplayed the extent to which Jeanty's 830 total touches in three years with the Broncos might give NFL teams pause.

"In terms of a natural runner who can do dirty work and hit home runs, in this draft, there's value in knowing exactly what you're buying as opposed to some uncertainty with other dudes," he said. "I know exactly what I'm getting with him."

Running backs don't mean as much as they used to in terms of impacting winning and losing. Saquon Barkley is a prime example, though, of how an elite ball-carrier can elevate an existing contender.

Maybe using a top-10 pick on Jeanty would prove to be a bad value play in the long run, but his sheer talent certainly warrants that kind of consideration.
