Report: Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, Riley Leonard to Throw at NFL Combine; Cam Ward TBD

Joseph ZuckerFeb 24, 2025

Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart, Alabama's Jalen Milroe and Notre Dame's Riley Leonard are all planning to throw at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero also reported the status of Miami's Cam Ward remains unclear.

Should Ward decline to work out, that would mean the top two quarterbacks won't be showcasing their skills in Indianapolis. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Sunday that Colorado star Shedeur Sanders only intends to do interviews at the combine.

While some will argue over which of the two is better, Ward and Sanders are well ahead of the pack at their position in the 2025 NFL draft class. Both could be selected within the top five picks.

Interviews are an important part of the combine. Beyond that, Ward and Sanders have little to gain from the event.

Their peers don't have that luxury. Opinions toward the QB class as a whole are generally lukewarm.

Of the three players listed off by Pelissero, Dart is the highest on Bleacher Report's big board and he sits 75th overall. Milroe trails closely behind at No. 77 and Leonard is all the way down at No. 142.

Dart had prolific passing numbers as a senior, throwing for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns and finishing with a 180.7 passer rating. However, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler cited one NFC executive who said the Rebels star could face a big adjustment going from a Lane Kiffin offense to an NFL scheme.

Milroe went backward slightly in 2024. His 218.8 passing yards were nearly equal to his output from a season earlier, but his touchdowns (16) were down while his interceptions (11) were up.

Leonard, meanwhile, was more of a game manager as he helped the Fighting Irish advance to the College Football National Championship Game. The 34-23 loss to Ohio State was the first time he threw for more than 250 yards in a game.

Dart, Milroe and Leonard all have a strong incentive to work out as much as they can at the Scouting Combine.

If they impress talent evaluators enough, Dart and Milroe could be Day 2 picks and perhaps even sneak into the first round when the quarterback premium is applied. Leonard could also help himself stand out from the middle of the pack and firmly vault ahead of Texas' Quinn Ewers and Syracuse's Kyle McCord.
