Hannah Hidalgo, No. 1 Notre Dame Stun WCBB Fans with Upset Loss to No. 13 NC State
After 19 consecutive wins, Notre Dame has finally suffered a loss.
The No. 1 Fighting Irish lost to No. 13 NC State 104-95 in double-overtime Sunday, marking their first loss since November and their first loss in conference play.
Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo put up 26 points but shot a lackluster 8-of-26 from the field. Two other Fighting Irish players finished with more than 20 points as Olivia Miles dropped 22 and Sonia Citron had 23. Citron also had the game-tying three as time expired to send things into overtime.

But Notre Dame’s powerful offense wasn’t quite as potent as the Wolfpack’s. Zoe Brooks put up 33 points as all five of NC State’s starters finished in double figures. In the first overtime, it was Aziaha James who hit the clutch bucket, a jumper with 20 seconds to even it up at 92 apiece.
It was all NC State in the second overtime as the Wolfpack gave up just three points to run away with the win.
The win had college basketball fans shocked on social media:
The loss is far from the end of the world for Notre Dame as it still is well on its way to winning the ACC. The Fighting Irish, who were a projected No. 1 seed in ESPN’s Charlie Creme’s most recent Bracketology, can also still likely earn a top seed in the tournament.
Still, the win for NC State is massive. The Wolfpack can potentially win the ACC if they handle business the rest of the way and get some help from other teams. They could also make a case for being a No. 2 seed in the tournament rather than a No. 3, which Creme projected them to be before the win.
