Daniel Jeremiah Fuels Matthew Stafford, Giants Trade Rumors with New NFL Mock Draft

Joseph ZuckerFeb 20, 2025

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network suggested the New York Giants might pursue Los Angeles Rams star Matthew Stafford over targeting a quarterback with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Jeremiah projected the Giants to select Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter in his newest mock draft, having previously put Miami quarterback Cam Ward in that spot.

Asked by one fan about the change, Jeremiah alluded to the uncertainty over Stafford's future in Los Angeles:

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday the Rams would like to restructure the 37-year-old's contract and called it "untenable" for the team in its present state. Stafford carries a $49.7 million salary cap hit for 2025.

That's leading a lot of people to wonder whether Los Angeles trades the veteran signal-caller, and the Giants are one of the more logical landing spots in that scenario.

"I can think of a certain team desperate for a quarterback with a GM and coach on the hot seat," The Athletic's Dan Duggan said. "The Giants’ rumored interest in Stafford makes perfect sense for this regime, especially if it’s not all-in on drafting a quarterback with the No. 3 pick (or earlier)."

Duggan went on to add that the Giants shouldn't give up their first-rounder in order to acquire Stafford, but sending the No. 34 overall pick to the Rams might be unavoidable.

One way or the other, fans should know well ahead of the draft whether New York will still be in the market for a quarterback.

Duggan's colleague, Jourdan Rodrigue, said that "I know the Rams will not let this situation drag out through the spring" in reference to Stafford's status. Los Angeles will presumably want to complete any trade before the draft because it could immediately utilize whatever assets it receives in the swap.

If Stafford is a member of the Giants roster when April 24 rolls around, then we can safely assume New York has removed Ward and Sanders from its draft board.
