Darius Slay Hopeful for Eagles Return in 2025, Open to Lions Contract If He's Released

Scott PolacekFeb 19, 2025

Darius Slay just won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles and would love to run things back with the reigning champions in 2025.

But the cornerback is also open to a return to the Detroit Lions if things don't work out in Philadelphia.

"Whatever they wanna do. I might re-sign back hopefully," he said on Wednesday's episode of the St. Brown Podcast (17:50 mark).

"If not, we'll see what we're doing. Because I do want to play one more year, for sure. I love Detroit. I've got nothing but love. That's my second home. … The two spots I would always love to be at is either Philly or Detroit."

Slay is no stranger to the Lions, as he suited up for the NFC North team for the first seven years of his career from 2013 through 2019.

He was a three-time Pro Bowler during that span and led the league in interceptions (eight) and passes defended (26) during the 2017 campaign. He also helped lead the Lions to the playoffs twice.

The 34-year-old has one more season on his contract, although there is a potential out for the 2025 season.

He may not be someone who is going to lead the league in passes defended or interceptions again at this stage of his career, but he made his sixth Pro Bowl in 2023 and is coming off a Super Bowl victory.

Slay also notched five passes defended and a pick in four postseason games, so he played a significant role in the championship run.

Amon-Ra St. Brown seemed to be recruiting him to return to the Lions on the podcast, so it seems like Slay will have favorable options even if the Eagles decide they want to head another direction during the 2025 campaign.
