NFL Rumors: Cowboys, Chiefs Named Potential Tyler Lockett Landing Spots by Insider

Julia StumbaughFeb 19, 2025

Tyler Lockett could be catching passes from Dak Prescott or Patrick Mahomes next season if the Seattle Seahawks decide to release him this spring.

ESPN's Brady Henderson named the Cowboys and Chiefs as "potential landing spots" for Lockett should the Seahawks decide to move on from the veteran wideout.

It would cost the Seahawks almost $13.9 million in dead money to cut Lockett before June 1, according to Over the Cap.

The team would still save $17 million from the move thanks to Lockett's cap hit, which comes in at over $30 million for the 2025 season.

That's a steep price for a receiver who recorded 600 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 17 games last season and who is on track to serve as WR3 behind DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba next season.

Henderson reported that Lockett spends "much of the offseason" in Texas. He also became a licensed real estate agent in Texas months after he got his Washington license following the 2021 season, Henderson previously reported.

Lockett also has experience with newly-hired Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who served as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2020.

Henderson noted that Lockett additionally has connections to Kansas City, where his father lives. His younger brother, Sterling Lockett, is also heading into his redshirt junior season at Kansas State.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll "could conceivably have interest" in pursuing Lockett, according to Henderson, who noted that Lockett could prioritize playing for a contender as he heads into his age-33 NFL season.

Lockett, drafted by Seattle in the third round of the 2015 draft, has played all 10 seasons of his NFL career for the Seahawks.

Although his production has declined since the four straight 1,000-receiving yard seasons he posted between 2019 and 2022, he could still serve as a boost to either the Seahawks' or another team's receiving depth on a reworked contract.

Lockett will receive a $5.3 million roster bonus if he is still with the Seahawks as of March 16, according to Spotrac. The Seahawks will likely make a decision regarding his contract before that date.
