The Washington Commanders are reportedly bringing tight end Zach Ertz back into the mix.

The Commanders are re-signing Ertz to a one-year, $6.25 million deal worth up to $9 million with incentives, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Saturday.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Ertz out of Stanford with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft. He shined in Philadelphia for eight-plus seasons, notably helping guide the team win its first-ever Super Bowl in Feb. 2018.

Ertz made the Pro Bowl from 2017-2019 and enjoyed a five-year stretch (2015-2019) where he averaged 86 catches, 914 yards and six touchdowns per season, according to Pro Football Reference.

His 74 catches and 824 yards led the 2017 Super Bowl champion Eagles, and his eight touchdowns were tied for second on the team. Ertz then shined in the playoffs for Philadelphia, notably catching eight passes for 97 yards in the NFC Championship Game (38-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings) and adding seven receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl (41-33 win over the favored New England Patriots).

He followed that up with his best-ever statistical season, accumulating 116 catches for 1,163 yards and eight touchdowns in 2018.

After eight-plus years, the Eagles traded Ertz to the Arizona Cardinals in Oct. 2021. He remained with the team through the 2023 season before signing a one-year, $3 million contract with the Washington Commanders.

Injuries had slowed Ertz down over his past few seasons, and he notably played just seven games for the Cardinals in 2023 after suffering a quadriceps injury that landed him on injured reserve.

However, he enjoyed a healthy campaign in 2024 and showed that he still had flashes of his Eagles prime in the tank. Ertz posted a 66/654/7 stat line for a Commanders team that tripled its win total from four to 12 and made the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991.

Ertz was a beast in the playoffs, notably catching five passes and a touchdown in a 45-31 win over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Divisional round before adding 11 catches for 104 yards in a 55-23 loss to his old Eagles squad in the NFC Championship Game.

Unsurprisingly, the Commanders wanted Ertz back after a great season that helped lead the team one step short of the Super Bowl. Now he's in town again as Washington looks for its first Super Bowl in 34 years.
