NFL Coach Says Shedeur Sanders Is 'Not Going' No. 1 Overall in 2025 Draft amid Rumors

It can be dangerous to make any bold draft proclamations two months before the event happens, but at least one NFL coach is confident enough to say that Shedeur Sanders won't be the No. 1 overall pick.

One NFC South coach told ESPN's Katherine Terrell in no uncertain terms that Sanders is "not going" to be selected with the first pick.

The Tennessee Titans own the top pick and have a need at quarterback, but the top of this class is one of the weakest at the position in recent memory.

Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward are the consensus top two quarterbacks in the 2025 draft, though both are divisive prospects. Ward has been criticized for taking too many risks that he was largely able to get away with in college but may not work in the NFL.

One of the big knocks on Sanders is that he holds onto the ball too long, waiting for plays to develop. He was sacked a total of 94 times over the past two seasons, 15 more than any other FBS quarterback.

Since there isn't a consensus top quarterback prospect this year, the Titans could go in any number of directions if they keep the No. 1 overall pick. They could ultimately decide Sanders is the right fit for their team, or they could try to address the position with a short-term option for 2025 (Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins) and use the No. 1 pick on someone like Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter to give them a potential franchise cornerstone to build around.

New Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi has a lot to figure out before the draft on April 24. The next big date on the calendar is the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis starting on Feb. 27.
