Brock Lesnar Will Spark Change World Title Scene Needs at WWE Battleground 2015

Donald WoodJun 24, 2015

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship scene needs a change, and Brock Lesnar will be the catalyst at Battleground 2015.

Lesnar is without a doubt the biggest draw in the professional wrestling industry today. With the WWE Universe growing wary of Seth Rollins and the porous booking he has been handed by management, fans should be prepared for a major change.

CM Punk proved in the past that change can only come when all parties are fighting for the same purpose, and Lesnar has shown in the past that he is willing to play ball when it comes to putting talent over. As a former champion in collegiate wrestling, WWE and UFC, the fans buy him as a legitimate tough guy. When someone gets the better of The Beast, the WWE Universe takes notice.

Month after month of seeing Rollins lose clean on almost every show, the title was beginning to lose some credibility. The second Lesnar’s music hit and it was clear he was there for the belt, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship became important again.

One of the reasons Lesnar has been so valuable to the WWE as a company is his understanding of the business and his willingness to do what is right for the future. The hope is that Lesnar and Rollins have a great match at Battleground, and the current world champion can earn some respect from the fans who have seen him be a glorified jobber for months.

After a long match that gives Rollins plenty of chances to show his skill in the ring, Lesnar should finally beat him cleanly in the middle of the ring. As soon as the new champion is crowned, Sheamus should hit the ring with his Money in the Bank briefcase to cash in successfully and walk out of Battleground as the new world champion.

This would obviously result in a rematch for both Lesnar and Rollins against Sheamus at SummerSlam, but the depth of the storylines that would come from this angle have the potential to be genuinely entertaining.

Not only would Sheamus stealing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship cause immense heat from Lesnar and his mouthpiece Paul Heyman toward the Irish star, but it would also cause tension with Rollins due to the perception that he is taking his place in The Authority. Add in Rollins' animosity toward Triple H and Stephanie McMahon for essentially picking Sheamus over him, and this is a program with several different levels.

At SummerSlam, Lesnar could dominate the match for the most part as he always should, but both Rollins and Sheamus can also look strong just as the WWE Universe witnessed while watching the Triple Threat match featuring Lesnar, Rollins and John Cena at the 2015 Royal Rumble.

After Rollins and Sheamus team up to eliminate Lesnar from contention, Sheamus can get the dirty pinfall over Rollins. This outcome would help turn Rollins face—something that has been rumored for several weeks—and would continue his feud against The Authority's new hand-chosen star.

With Lesnar likely taking another hiatus after a SummerSlam match, leaving the title in the hands of Sheamus and Rollins to fight over is smart booking and should be enough to carry the company until Lesnar is once again ready to return and stake his claim on the title.

The key will be Lesnar. He has the aura and the raw talent to be considered the best in the business. If he puts over both Sheamus and Rollins as strong challengers, the WWE Universe will be able to embrace them over the coming months.
