WWE Raw: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for June 22

Ryan DilbertJun 22, 2015

On June 22, WWE Raw will have no shortage of star power.

John Cena is expected to return after suffering the effects of a Kevin Owens pop-up powerbomb. Brock Lesnar, now officially the No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, is set to be on the premier show as well, as the company looks to hype his upcoming title bout.

Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, will play host to those two powerhouses and more.

It's possible that the Raw roster could also include someone recruited for Paige's fight against The Bella Twins, as well as a Superstar fans have only seen in glimpses over the past year.

This marks the first time in months that WWE has more than two weeks to construct and promote a pay-per-view card. Monday's Raw will offer early Battleground preparations, but thankfully the narrative arcs won't be rushed. The company can let feuds reach their boiling points at a more natural pace.

The show will air on the USA Network at 8 p.m. ET. Backstage reports, results from live events and James Wortman's five-point preview on WWE.com provide an excellent idea of what to expect on the three-hour event.

News, Potential Spoilers

The more Paige talks about bringing change to the Divas division, the more fans will be expecting to see an NXT wrestler join her in her fight against the Bella sisters. With all of WWE's recent foreshadowing, it's no surprise that there is backstage talk that the angle will head in that direction.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc) reported that there is speculation that Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch or Bayley may come up to the main roster to aid Paige.

The report didn't mention any current plans involving those women. It didn't confirm what many fans have foreseen; it only fueled the rumor mill.

Recent booking points to Lynch's possible move from NXT to WWE proper. As seen on ProFightDB.com (link contains spoilers), Lynch did not compete at the last four TV tapings. That could be a result of her promotion and joining forces with Paige.

There is a European connection to exploit between the two women.

A safer bet than a Lynch sighting on Monday's Raw, though, is that WWE will plug its revived reality show a ton. The newest season of WWE Tough Enough debuts on Tuesday night. That likely means lots of mentions on the air.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson wrote, "Expect a big push for tomorrow's WWE Tough Enough season premiere."

Monday's Raw may also feature a wrestler who hasn't been on TV in ages.

Brad Maddox continues to increase his workload at house shows. ProFightDB.com's listings for the weekend round of live events noted that Maddox lost to Jack Swagger on June 20 and then suffered the same result the next night in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

On Twitter, a fan shared two shots of Maddox in action:

He may just be serving as filler on these events, but this continued off-screen usage could also be a prelude for his return to Raw.

Monday's show will have plenty of talent available whether or not WWE decides to use either Swagger or Maddox. James Caldwell of Pro Wrestling Torch noted that both John Cena and Brock Lesnar are advertised to appear on Monday's Raw. In addition, Roman Reigns, Sheamus, Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens and Big Show are on the bill.

Building Toward Battleground

While rumors point to Paige's crew going from one to two, WWE's preview for Raw hints at the Bella contingent's growing instead.

Alicia Fox seemed to be part of the Bella posse after attacking Paige on Thursday's SmackDown. Fox then celebrated with Nikki and Brie.

That is quite possibly just the beginning of an alliance with the Bellas. Wortman asked, "Is Fox now actually in league with The Bella Twins? If so, how many others aligned with Nikki and Brie?"

As for the former tag team champs, The New Day is struggling to not fall apart after a string of recent losses. The Prime Time Players knocked off the faction in consecutive bouts. Neville then followed up with a win over Xavier Woods last week.

Wortman wondered, "Will the clapping competitors reverse their fortunes this week on Raw?"

Regardless if the trio wins or loses on Monday, the attention it's been getting of late, including in the five-point preview, suggests that it will be in the spotlight. The feud with The Prime Time Players has just begun; look for more collisions between the groups on Raw and beyond.

The general expectation is that The New Day will eventually earn a rematch. That's exactly what Kevin Owens wants as well.

After losing to John Cena at Money in the Bank, Owens has made it known that he wants a third clash with the champ, this time with the United States Championship on the line.

And in what should come as no surprise to the majority of fans, Cena is sure to talk about that challenge when he makes his way back to TV. Wortman pointed in that direction when he wrote, "Will Cena address Owens’ new desire to battle for the U.S. Title?"

As for the upcoming battle for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, it looks as if we're set for more hype for that bout by way of another faceoff.

Brock Lesnar stared Seth Rollins down on last week's Raw, the challenger forcing the champ to squirm away in fear.

Wortman teased a showdown between them on Monday night, writing, "Perhaps that bravado will be tested Monday night, should Rollins and Lesnar cross paths on Raw."

It's not often we see Lesnar appear on two Raws in a row, especially when it's not WrestleMania season. It looks then as if a rare treat will be heading fans' way. The Beast Incarnate is set to go prowling in Indiana.
