WWE Battleground 2015: Titles Most Likely to Change Hands at Event

Aaron BowerJun 17, 2015

Although only one championship, the WWE Tag Team Championships, changed hands at Money in the Bank, that doesn't mean the same will happen again at the company's next pay-per-view.

Battleground is a good month away, which means there is plenty of time for some seeds to be sown in terms of shaping some new champions before SummerSlam.

Some existing and defending champions have held their respective straps for some time too, which means their hourglass could be about to empty at Battleground.

But what titles could we expect to change hands at Battleground?

Divas Championship

For a few months now, Nikki Bella, with the help of sister Brie, has been escaping routinely out of pay-per-view shows with her Divas Championship in her grasp.

However, at Battleground, that may well change.

The fact Nikki has come so close to losing on a couple of occasions suggests that her time is running out, and the likely winner could be Paige.

Paige was desperately unlucky to lose at Money in the Bank, and given how she seems to be head and shoulders above most other contenders at the moment, she is the logical choice to end Nikki's lengthy run and become the new Divas Champion.

United States Championship

There was a significant moment at the end of John Cena's second bout with Kevin Owens at Money in the Bank. After Owens powerbombed Cena onto the apron and walked away, he boldly lifted Cena's United States Championship into the air and said he could take the belt any time he wanted.

Well, with a third bout between the two surely inevitable, why couldn't it be at Battleground?

There's perhaps a logic in the WWE waiting until SummerSlam to crown Owens as the new champion, but that would mean a fourth match between these two great foes in a row, which could be too much.

Owens is clearly heading for a permanent spot on the main roster, and giving him a championship would be a shrewd way to kick that reign off.

Cena's reign as U.S. champ has been good to keep him in the middle of the card, but this just feels like Owens' time.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Much like John Cena's United States Championship, perhaps Seth Rollins' grand dethroning could wait until SummerSlam.

But given how it's highly likely Brock Lesnar will go away from TV again following that show, the best way for Lesnar to regain his WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be at Battleground.

That opens the door for Rollins to perhaps square off against The Authority, which has been teased lately, and it would enable Lesnar to welcome a new challenger to the main event scene.

Having Lesnar lose out at Battleground seems highly unlikely the more one thinks about it, especially given how he's being portrayed as a major monster.
