WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from June 17

Erik BeastonJun 18, 2015

To say that Samoa Joe has not impressed thus far in NXT would be an understatement. The lackluster results to this point made him the biggest loser of Wednesday's broadcast.

In a match hyped through social media as an epic encounter, Joe and current NXT champion Kevin Owens delivered a slow, uninteresting and lethargic main event that threatened to kill the energy inside Full Sail University by the time Owens applied what felt like the longest headlock in the history of professional wrestling.

There was no fire in Joe's comeback, and the finish did little to inspire anyone to want to see a rematch between the former Ring of Honor heavyweight champions.

At this point, just months into his NXT run, Joe is in desperate need of a signature performance. Whether that comes against Owens, Finn Balor, Tyler Breeze or another member of the roster, he needs to show the fans what all the hype was about. He has to demonstrate why he was one of the most coveted free agents in the sport.

Otherwise, he has the potential to be one of the biggest busts in the short history of the developmental brand.

Samoa Joe may have been the night's biggest loser, but he was not the only NXT star to stand out on Wednesday's show. Who joined him in the loser category, and which Superstars and Divas had a considerably better night?

Find out now with this look at the biggest winners and losers from the June 17 episode of NXT.

Winner: Finn Balor

WWE's masterful video production department struck again this week, giving fans a look into the man behind the most interesting and exciting performer on the roster, Finn Balor.

From the use of his real name (Fergal Devitt) to the footage from Revolution Pro Wrestling to the candid and emotional discussion with Becky Lynch, the video not only gave fans who are unfamiliar with Balor an introduction to him, but it also gave viewers a reason to invest emotionally in him and his quest for the NXT Championship.

From Day 1, Balor has appeared main roster-ready, and while Owens may have made it to Raw and SmackDown first, the Irish-born competitor is going to have the opportunity to become the face of NXT come July 4.

If his work thus far has been any indication, he will thrive in the role.

Loser: Dana Brooke

The fitness model-turned-wrestler cut a dreadfully wooden promo Wednesday night. In addition, the fact that it looked like she was reading from something just off-camera did her no favors.

Of course, it is important to remember that she is still young (26), inexperienced and essentially learning on the job. That is why she has been programmed with Charlotte; NXT hopes that the second-generation Diva can help carry Brooke in the ring and teach her a few things in the process.

But that does not make up for what was a rough night on the mic by someone management clearly has plans for. Working on her delivery will be almost as imperative as developing her in-ring performance.

Winner: Carmella

Remember when the NXT Universe essentially turned Carmella heel despite positioning her as a babyface, as her grating mic work and unappealing personality eclipsed her stunning beauty?

Over the last few months, though, Carmella has won fans over thanks to some quality writing from NXT Creative and some impassioned performances on her part.

Wednesday night, she continued to win over fans, cutting a promo that generated a pop from the tough Full Sail audience. Then she unleashed her rage on Alexa Bliss, drawing an even louder, more positive response.

It has been clear since Day 1 that Carmella has the natural ability to entertain a crowd. Her dedication to her character is apparent; she just needed to get over with the audience. Now that she has, the opportunity to grow and develop into a fine performer awaits.
