Foles, Rams Working on New Deal

Head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed the sides have spoken about a new contract.
"We've had some discussions," Fisher said, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN. "I think what Nick has done early in his career, he has proven that he can get the job done on the field. He's carried things on here so we are going to continue to talk and see if we can get something that's good for both sides."
Louis Riddick of ESPN noted Foles has better stats than both Ryan Tannehill and Andy Dalton, who both received extensions recently.
Sports Xchange's Howard Balzer spoke with Bleacher Report's Adam Lefkoe on the prospects of getting a deal done:
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport provided details on initial talks between the Rams and Foles on June 15:
Chris Wesseling of NFL.com doesn't necessarily agree with the purported timetable for St. Louis to strike an agreement with its new signal-caller:
The Rams acquired Foles by dealing away their oft-injured QB, Sam Bradford, to the Philadelphia Eagles. A broken collarbone limited Foles to just eight starts in 2014, when his production dropped off from his prior breakout season.
Foles flashed the ability to be a franchise passer in Philadelphia when he threw 27 touchdowns to just two interceptions during the 2013 campaign. Despite showing signs of regression this last year, St. Louis has to feel better about its perpetually inept situation under center with Foles in the fold.
Veteran Rams receiver Kenny Britt raved about Foles after organized team activities on June 4.
"We love him," said Britt, per the Associated Press' R.B. Fallstrom. "Great deep ball, he puts it on the money every time. He can throw every pass in the book."
Making Foles feel comfortable in a new environment is a smart move by the Rams brass, but rewarding him with a lucrative contract before he's played a significant down seems risky. Friction could arise if St. Louis is fixed on getting Foles locked up before Week 1 and fails to do so.
It falls on general manager Les Snead to strike a balance between a fair salary for Foles while also bracing for the possibility that he doesn't work out as the team's QB savior. If Foles is anywhere close to what he was in 2013, though, Snead and Co. could wind up getting the 26-year-old at a relative bargain.
