Anderson Russell Is Still Out Of Position!
Enough is enough is enough!!! I am calling for Anderson Russell's head. He has one job on this defense; do not under any circumstance let anyone behind you.
I was in attendance Saturday afternoon for the OSU v Navy game. I watch the replays, and when I drove back to southern KY I watched the entire football game again. I focused on two key plays that transformed this game from a possible cover to a near disaster.
Play 1. 3rd and 16 with 1:30 to go in the 3rd.
Navy lines up with 3 wide outs. Russell shows man coverage with safety help over the top. Which means he has help to the middle of the field and needs to play to the outside of the receiver? The ball is snapped and Russell points to his man to signal man coverage to Devoe Torrence and by the time he turns his hips to run his man has a step and is into his break for the corner of the end zone. Curry makes the catch while Russell dives for the ball and landing out of bounds.
Alright we are still okay we make a long field goal to push the lead to 9 and then add 6 with a Boom Herron run. By now every Navy fan in the Shoe is silent no more chants for Navy 1st downs no chance they are coming back. Right?
Play 2. 1st and 10 with 6:27 left in the 4th.
Navy lines up and runs the same play to the same receiver and the guy and guess who is covering Curry once again??? Anderson Russell. Curry just beats him again for an 85 yard touchdown. Now some will say this is because he was looking in the backfield for the option... No there was no option fake. This was a simple drop back pass that was once again poorly covered.
I'll give you one more Navy opens the game with two straight passes and then runs the same play as play 2. Dobbs over throws his man but once again Russell is beat by a Navy Wide out.
If I were Sneaky Pete I would find Russell and pick on him all game long next week. Really what do we think the USC receivers will do to him if he can’t cover a Navy player. Tressel better let him have it in the film room. I would understand if this were a freshman, sophomore, maybe a junior that is starting for the 1st time, but not Anderson Russell. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me…
My face is red and my keyboard is crying. I cannot say anything else.....
