WWE Money in the Bank Results 2015: Most Underrated Moments from Event

James MoffatJun 16, 2015

WWE Money in the Bank provided a lot of memorable moments. From beginning to end, this was one of the strongest cards WWE has put together this year.

From Sheamus’ surprising win in the Money in the Bank ladder match to John Cena vs. Kevin Owens or Seth Rollins retaining his world heavyweight championship against Dean Ambrose, the highs of Sunday night’s pay-per-view vastly outshined its lows (we’re looking at you, Ryback and Big Show).

While much attention has rightfully been paid to the stars of the pay-per-view, there were a number of overlooked aspects of Money in the Bank that should be given their just due.

WWE gave Divas a chance, and they delivered

For the first time in months, WWE gave its fans an actual match involving its Divas. Nikki Bella and Paige were given ample ring time to work (more than 11 minutes), delivered some really good moves and multiple near pinfalls, and they provided a twist in the ending.

Simply put: The Divas delivered. But it still feels like we’re selling them short and not giving them the credit they deserve. Jesse Collings of Wrestling Inc. wrote that “(the) match was mostly a mess” before urging WWE to bring the women of NXT up to the main roster.

And therein lies the problem.

Even when the main roster Divas put together a solid match, the women of NXT have created such lofty expectations that fans cannot appreciate when the women on the main roster do things right.

Even if you didn’t enjoy the finale, the Divas match at Money in the Bank had plenty of good going for it. Let’s just appreciate that for a moment and not bury Nikki and Paige for not being Sasha and Becky.

The New Day’s heel work deserves more praise

Yes, Kofi Kingston flopped in his role as acrobat during the Money in the Bank ladder match. Yes, Big E and Xavier Woods lost the tag team titles to The Prime Time Players in the blink of an eye.

If you look strictly at wins and losses, it wasn’t a good night to be part of The New Day. But Money in the Bank wasn’t about the wins and losses for the trio; it was about developing their characters.

Allowing Big E and Woods to help Kofi during the ladder match was classic heel. No one else—not even The Authority on behalf of Kanepulled this move. The biggest heels in the business did, and they were promptly booed for it.

It was a great move meant to generate heat, and The New Day succeeded with flying colors.

Plus, The New Day carried the events from earlier in the evening into their tag team match, providing continuity to the evening's action. Woods’ promo prior to the tag team match, expressing his frustrations at fans with a near meltdown stopped short by Big E, was a perfect piece of work.

It showed a glimpse into the group’s true nature, the fiery competitors underneath the gospel veneer.

Sure, the tag match was too short. It was designed that way. WWE didn’t want a drawn-out match between its two major events of the evening. It wanted a breather. That’s the role the tag teams played at Money in the Bank.

Their feud with The Prime Time Players isn’t close to being over, and you can be sure that we’ll continue to see more of their excellent work in ring and on the microphone as the summer heats up.
