Houston Astros

Grade: A
Notable Selections: SS Alex Bregman (2nd), OF Kyle Tucker (5th), OF Daz Cameron (37th)
The Houston Astros have developed into one of the most promising young sides in the majors. After this year's draft, their talent pool just got a little deeper, as they obtained three top-10 talents in the first two rounds, something Perfect Game USA's Jheremy Brown found impressive.
With the second overall pick, they took the second-best shortstop in the nation in Alex Bregman out of LSU.
A speedy shortstop with a quick bat, he is a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award as the nation's best player. Bregman will have to make things work at shortstop since the Astros have their second baseman for the foreseeable future in Jose Altuve.
Houston could not rest for long as it had to reload and make the fifth overall pick, where the team selected Kyle Tucker out of H.B. Plant High School. He will have a familiar face waiting for him in the Astros system. His brother, Preston, is participating in his first season with the Astros.
This will be a long-term investment. At 18 years old, Tucker has power and will have to hone his game in the minors. According to Max Preps, he recorded eight home runs and 21 RBI in just 54 at-bats in his senior season. He hit 28 home runs and drove in 94 runs in 95 games.
Falling into Houston's lap at No. 37, Daz Cameron rounded out an impressive day for the Astros. He was projected to be a top-10 pick in many mock drafts, including Baseball America's John Manuel's. Cameron possesses a great balance of power, speed and fielding, but his asking price deterred many from drafting him, according to Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle.
Though they did not address their need of pitching, the Astros took the opportunity and chose the best talent available. And it was abundant.
Colorado Rockies

Grade: A
Notable Selections: SS Brendan Rodgers (3rd), RHP Mike Nikorak (27th), 3B Tyler Nevin (38th)
The 2015 MLB draft was shortstop-heavy. That goes without saying. The first three picks were shortstops, and the Colorado Rockies were able to get their man.
The selection of Rodgers is enough to give the Rockies an "A." With the ever-circulating speculation that Troy Tulowitzki is on his way out of Colorado, the Rockies did not sit back and wait to be burned.
Baseball America picked Rodgers as the No. 1 overall draft prospect. He hit .378 with 16 home runs and 41 RBI in 143 at-bats at Lake Mary High School in Florida, according to Max Preps.
According to CBS' Jon Heyman, Rodgers will fit in just fine in Colorado:
"He gets to play in Coors Field, assuming he makes the majors, and possibly follow Troy Tulowitzki, another shortstop taken No. 1 overall by the Rockies. According to Joe Lemire, working for USA Today, Rodgers hit 19 of 35 balls out of Coors at a recent workout, which must have been pretty convincing.
"
But the Rockies did not stop there, as they managed to nab 18-year-old righty Mike Nikorak out of Stroudsburg High in Pennsylvania. At 6'5", 224 pounds, he already has the frame of a major league pitcher and can bring the heat with a fastball touching 97 mph.
Nikorak was dominant in the high school circuit, going 8-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 29.2 innings, per Jim Halley of USA Today.
Third-baseman Tyler Nevin, son of former major leaguer Phil, added to the Rockies' infield depth when they selected him 38th out of Poway High School. A contact hitter, Nevin batted .409 this past season with 22 of his 45 hits going for extra bases, per Max Preps.
