HBO's Mayweather VS Marquez 24/7 Part 2 Gets an A
HBO's Mayweather vs Marquez 24/7 episode two opens up with Juan Manuel Marquez training 14,000 feet high up in the volcano mountains of Mexico. Marquez is seen tossing large rocks and we hear that a fresh breath of air that high up in the mountains tends to sting your lungs.
Juan then consumes his ritual champion drink that consists of fresh raw quail eggs. If you think this is disgusting wait and see what Juan drinks later on at the end of the episode. Fine I'll tell you right now instead, we learn that Juan drinks his urine for he believes it is a great source of protein and vitamins.
Juan also utilizes a hyperbolic chamber to give his body the utmost needed oxygen to perform at its top level. I personally found this rather interesting for I've always heard many eccentric athletes and celebs using this device but until tonight never seen it with my own eyes. It was a rather cool futuristic chamber that resembled Kanye West's Stronger video.
We then switch over to Mayweather and the subject of work is addressed as the classic hip hop song Work by Gangstarr is playing as Floyd starts to display his work ethic in the gym.
Roger Mayweather, Floyd's trainer begins to quiz everyone about boxing claiming most people do not know sh*t about boxing. Roger points to his elaborate collage of boxers and asked many trivia questions for the answers are all within his collage of boxers. We learn that Roger feels Roberto Duran was the greatest Latin fighter of all time.
Floyd does not allow his sparring sessions to be taped so we see the garage door close on his gym and 45 minutes later his Latin sparring partner's face is completely red with blood.
Marquez is then tutoring his son in math and we learn once again that the negative stereotype of boxers being dumb is contradicted with Marquez for he is good with math and numbers and studied to be an accountant.
Juan states that in the ring he's a champion but outside he's just a regular guy. I personally have met Juan and I can confirm that he is indeed the coolest most humble guy ever.
The viewers learn that Juan and his brother Rafael who is also a top ranked champion boxer are married to two sisters. So just to clarify they are a pair of brothers who married a pair of sisters. Rafael jokes about how its Juan's fault for introducing him to his wife/sister in law.
We finally get to learn more about the legendary 80 year old Rafael Garcia who is Floyd's cutman who also worked with other legends Alexis Arguello and Roberto Duran. Garcia studied under a doctor to better treat the fragile hands of Mayweather. Personally I love this guy Garcia whenever you see him he's always smiling and happy and just positive. It is great that we finally get to learn more about him after all of his years involved with the sport.
Floyd then is seen in the ring shouting, "We don't get tired we get hungrier!"
Nacho, Juan's legendary trainer is seen on a couch smoking a Cuban cigar and studying Floyd's tape of the Castillo fight. Nacho is formulating a plan of attack. He feels he may have a way to deal with Floyd's famous shoulder roll and to pressure him off his game by throwing combinations for he feels Floyd only can handle two punches at a time.
Floyd, father and son, then battle it out in a jump rope competition where the Pretty Boy smokes Joy. They then show off their bodies to the camera as well and come to the conclusion that nine years of beef should of been squashed a whole lot sooner.
KING J gives this episode a grade of an A. HBO has been consistent so far this time around showing the true fight fans what matters by showing us the things we do not normally get access to. Let's hope the remaining episodes have more so the fight can live up to this buzz so far.
