Carson Palmer Injury: Updates on Cardinals Star's Recovery from ACL Surgery

Mike ChiariJun 9, 2015

After missing the final seven games of the regular season and the playoffs in 2014 with a torn ACL, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer appears to be on track to start in 2015.

Palmer Cleared to Participate in Minicamp Drills

Tuesday, June 9

The injury-riddled Cardinals managed to make the postseason in 2014 despite myriad players on the shelf, but no loss was more devastating than that of Palmer.

He missed all but six games, but when he did play, the veteran signal-caller was among the best players in the league at his position, going 6-0.

Arizona will need a similar performance and better health in 2015 to replicate last year's success, but early returns are promising. Palmer has been cleared to participate in 11-on-11 drills at the Cards' minicamp, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This announcement comes on the heels of Cardinals long snapper Mike Leach declaring the two-time Pro Bowler to be at "full speed" in practice, per Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com. "He wants this bad," Leach continued.

There were no limitations on Palmer during the session, as head coach Bruce Arians said, "The training wheels are off," according to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com.

The 35-year-old gunslinger also spoke about the health of his knee with ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss:

"

I'm ready. I'm excited. I'm 100 percent. I'm cleared. I can do everything. I've tested out. Gotten stronger every week, every month, just ready to get going. ... I feel great. I probably never worked this hard in my life and I've always worked hard. I feel as fast as I've ever been, as quick as I've ever been, I'm stronger than I've ever been just because I've been going since late November. So, I feel great. Just looking forward to tomorrow.

"

If Palmer is feeling anywhere near this level, the Cardinals figure to be a threat in the difficult NFC West once again this coming season.

It is the Seattle Seahawks' division to win, but with the San Francisco 49ers moving in the wrong direction and the St. Louis Rams still learning to win, a second consecutive playoff appearance isn't out of the question for the Cards.
