5 Key Factors to Take Barcelona to Liga Title Glory in 2015/16

Jason PettigroveJun 13, 2015

Barcelona took La Liga by storm in 2014/15 and were crowned worthy winners.

After a period when rivals Real Madrid looked like they were going to run away with the title, Barca surged ahead and never looked back once the chance to top the table presented itself.

Scoring at least four goals or more on 16 occasions, per WhoScored.com, deserves the reward that came Barca's way.

After such a strong campaign, how can the club ensure a similar outcome in 2015/16?

Let's take a look...

Retention of Luis Enrique

He came, he saw, he conquered.
He came, he saw, he conquered.

Luis Enrique will probably be the first to admit that he was feeling the heat around Christmastime, when everything around him seemed to be crumbling.

That said, Barca had only lost two league games in La Liga to that point and one in the Champions League, so his tenure to that point had hardly been a disaster.

In any event, when the going gets tough, the tough get going, and Enrique was renowned for the same as a player. It was obvious those qualities would eventually come shining through now he is a manager.

To mastermind a treble in his first season, and in the process come up with the best numbers of any manager in Barcelona history, is truly a fabulous achievement.

If Barca want to continue that success, then keeping hold of their manager, no matter who wins the presidential election, is a must.

Keeping the Same Backroom Staff

And if the manager stays, then so must his backroom staff—the people who are always in the background but play a huge part in the club's successes on the pitch.

A distinct lack of injuries this season has to be attributed to the fitness and conditioning side of the club, and the fact the first-team squad wanted everyone to share in their best moments of the season speaks volumes.

Lucho's men are doing something right, so why risk the wrath of a group of happy players when everything that has been put into place on the training pitch and nutritionally, mentally and otherwise is working perfectly?

All for one, and one for all.

Rotations Again, Please

That Luis Enrique couldn't settle on his preferred XI was one of the talking points of the season.

It took the debacle at Real Sociedad for the manager to finally start playing a regular and settled side.

Before that, he had been castigated for starting with 29 different lineups in 29 successive matches, per Ben Hayward of Goal.

However, with the benefit of hindsight, it now seems that the manager made the correct calls all along.

Every single one of Barcelona's players looked fresh and focused going into the final games of the campaign.

There's no reason why there shouldn't be more of the same next season.

No Wholesale Changes

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Although Barcelona have the opportunity to purchase players during the summer, though they are unable to be registered to play until January 2016, the club should think very carefully before deciding whether to make wholesale changes.

There are bound to be casualties.

With the signing of Aleix Vidal and the renewal of Dani Alves' contract, Barca are well covered in the right-back area, so it would be fair to assume Martin Montoya will finally leave, followed by Douglas.

Some Barca B players who are far too good for the Segunda Division B might be considered for promotion, while loan players may now be sold or have their deals renewed.

However, there is no need to buy for buying's sake.

Any new president will no doubt make noises about whom he intends to sign as part of his manifesto, but will Barca actually need those players?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Let Messi Be Messi

Lionel Messi makes the team tick.

Luis Enrique learned very quickly what Pep Guardiola discovered during his time at the club: Let Lionel Messi do as he pleases within certain constraints, and he will bring the team success.

Playing him back out on the right was a masterstroke, and we have seen Messi's role there develop over the course of the season.

By allowing him to essentially boss proceedings, thereby taking care of his ego, we get to see Messi at his very best.

It may put others' noses out of joint, but there is little doubt who oils the wheels in this Barcelona side, and there is no point in arguing otherwise.

Fifty-eight goals and 23 assists, per WhoScored, is otherwordly. Has any player ever recorded such sensational figures in one season of football?

With the loss of Xavi Hernandez, Messi will likely be promoted to vice-captain, and if rumours of Paul Pogba's impending signing are true, reported by Anthony Jepson of the Manchester Evening News, then we might expect Andres Iniesta to play a slightly more peripheral role, meaning Messi's influence will be even greater than it was last season.
