PCL Pitching Leaders, Player Has 7-7 Game
Pitching Leaders
Tony Barnette (Diamondbacks) has the best winning percentage of the two leaders in wins in the PCL. However his 13-8 record is not a true indication of how well he is pitching.
He has a 5.80 ERA and has allowed 180 hits in 156 innings. His 1.54 WHIP is also not awe inspiring. Opponents are hitting .291 against him. If his batting support stats were available they probably would show he is getting incredible support from the Reno offense.
Burnette was drafted in the tenth round of the 2006 draft by the Diamondbacks.
Giancarlo Alvarado (Dodgers) like Burnette has 13 wins but has lost two more games. However his other stats are much better than those of Burnette. His ERA is 3.49 and he has struck out 152 in 139 innings.
He has a 7-2 record in his last ten starts. In both of his two losses he pitched six innings and allowed three runs.
Alvarado has played an amazing 15 years in the minors without ever reaching the majors. At the age of 31 time may be running out for Alvarado.
He spent six seasons in rookie and A ball before finally advancing to AA ball. He was demoted to A ball in each of the next three seasons.
He pitched in the Triple A Mexican Leaugue in 2004 but didn’t play Triple A baseball in United States till 2009. He played his first professional game at the age of 17 in 1995. He was 31 by the time he finally reached American Triple A baseball.
Player To Watch
Desmond Jennings (Rays) center fielder tied a minor league record earlier this week by having a 7 for 7 game. The 22 year old Jennings has played well at both the AA and AAA level this season.
He has a .307 lifetime batting average and a .393 on base percentage and has stolen 134 bases. This season he has stolen 52 bases in 59 attempts.
Being promoted actually improved his numbers as is indicated by the following comparisons using his percentage stats:
Batting Average
AA .316
AAA .347
On Base Percentage
AA .395
AAA .443
Slugging Percentage
AA .486
AAA .535
On Base Plus Slugging (OPS)
