Seth Rollins Needs Strong Showing at WWE Money in the Bank 2015

Donald WoodJun 5, 2015

When Roman Reigns said Seth Rollins was one of the worst WWE world heavyweight champions on Raw this week, he wasn't far from the truth in terms of recent history.

Against Dean Ambrose at Money in the Bank 2015, Rollins will have a chance to redeem himself and to finally be booked as a strong champion. With Brock Lesnar eventually returning and looking for revenge on Rollins, he better look unstoppable.

When Rollins cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania, it made for an incredible moment, but the way he interjected himself in the match was considered fluky by many in the WWE Universe.

The surprise cash-in always feels fluky, but as we saw in Edge's career, what matters is how a Superstar is booked after winning the title. After walking out with the title at WrestleMania, though, Rollins won in a convoluted fashion at Extreme Rules, stole the victory at Payback via help from The Authority and used a Dusty Finish to beat Ambrose at Elimination Chamber.

A loss to Rollins would not be ideal for Ambrose and his rise as a top face in the company, but it wouldn’t hurt him as much as it would help the champion. Given the history between these two competitors, this should be WWE's chance to let the men fight without interference from Kane and J&J Security and give Rollins a much-needed clean win.

While the WWE missed the boat on booking Rollins strongly after WrestleMania, the company must make him look almost unstoppable immediately if the plan is to have Brock Lesnar attack him for taking the title away.

A great match against Ambrose and a clean victory would set the stage for Rollins to look impressive, and he can talk extra trash due to his bolstered confidence. As he is gloating about beating Ambrose and holding the title since WrestleMania, that's when Lesnar's music can hit, and it's game on.

The 2015 edition of Money in the Bank will likely be the last pay-per-view performance from Rollins before the return of Lesnar, and a strong showing could have the WWE Universe more willing to believe the current champion has a shot to beat The Beast.

If the long-term plan is for Rollins to fight Lesnar for the title, as it should be, the champion must dominate Sunday night.
