Sturgis Injured in Team Kickball Game
Thursday, June 4
According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, Sturgis will miss the remainder of the Dolphins' June practices after hurting his left quadriceps during a team kickball game. Fox Sports' Alex Marvez broke news of the injury earlier in the week, at which time the cause of the problem was unknown.
It's not entirely uncommon for athletes to hurt themselves playing another sport. Andrew Bynum is one of the more recent cases. The then-Philadelphia 76ers center was bowling when he further damaged his already-injured knees in 2012.
While the cause of the Sturgis' injury is somewhat comical in nature, the recovery time it will command could carry serious ramifications for Sturgis. Pro Football Talk's Darin Gantt wrote that the 25-year-old already had a tough fight ahead just to secure the starting job for Miami.
And if backup Andrew Franks doesn't impress enough to earn the role, the Dolphins might look to an outsider.
