An NXT Invasion Would Add an Intriguing Layer to the Cena-Owens Feud

There is no doubt that Kevin Owens has kicked in the front door when it comes to making a statement on the main roster.

While many perceived his initial appearance as just more hype for the upcoming NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable event, it ended up being much more. In fact, it lead to a match with John Cena at Elimination Chamber.

While the match had only two weeks to build, that is all it needed. The intensity, ebbs and flows, and overall caliber of the match instantly cemented its status as a Match of the Year candidate.

And the biggest shock? John Cena lost. Cleanly.

Owens' momentum in carrying the NXT Championship on WWE's flagship show should not abruptly halt at Money in the Bank. Sure, John Cena will most likely win that match just to protect his character, similar to the win-loss exchange he had with Rusev at Fastlane and WrestleMania (as well as Extreme Rules and Payback), but this must go further than just a redemption win.

When Owens was first introduced to the Richmond, Virginia, crowd on Raw, his response was less engaged than most likely expected. However, it did not take long for NXT to earn mainstream recognition from the WWE universe thanks to Owens' actions over the past few weeks.

In keeping this momentum, as well as gaining retribution from his impending loss at Money in the Bank, Owens should not relent on his mission to destroy Cena's legacy. Moreover, he should bring backup.

On an episode of Raw leading into SummerSlam, Owens should once again face Cena. All of a sudden, Baron Corbin, Mojo Rawley, Bull Dempsey and Jason Jordan (all intimidating figures) should all appear and take out the leader of the Cenation.

In result, Cena will rummage through the roster to find backup. Each week, a person could show his loyalty not necessarily to Cena but to the WWE brand. Ryback, Dolph Ziggler, R-Truth and Neville would be the ones representing the brand, leading to a 10-man match at SummerSlam.

Before the final decision, Neville could be approached by Kevin Owens to be a member of Team NXT. Over a few weeks, Neville could seriously contemplate joining the team but would show his loyalty to WWE and align with Cena and Company.

Not only would this spark more interest in NXT from those who either infrequently watch or do not watch at all, but it would also showcase notable talent from NXT, reviving all of its characters and making them must-see heels on Wednesday nights.

It would have a bit of a Nexus feel to it, only this time Owens would have enough momentum from his clean win over Cena, and Team NXT would be more popular than before entering the feud.
