The New Day Must Continue Championship Reign at WWE Money in the Bank 2015

Donald WoodJun 5, 2015

One of the biggest surprises in the WWE this year has been the rise of the tag team champions, The New Day, and they are once again defending their titles at Money in the Bank 2015 against the Prime Time Players.

What makes The New Day work is that the trio is made up of three talented individuals—Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods—who are dedicated to acting like the quintessential old-school heels.

From cheating to win by using their numbers advantage to using positive messages to hide their heel intentions, The New Day is generating real heat from the crowd. It has been a long time since the WWE had a heel tag team that could generate serious hatred, but the concept of having a Fabulous Freebirds style stable makes it all the more interesting.

Fans were complaining that there was no depth in the tag team division, but the Elimination Chamber match made six different teams look legitimate, and that didn’t even include Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. The New Day has the chance to cement their spot at the top of the heap by beating the Prime Time Players as clean as possible.

The New Day should dominate the majority of the division, as they have for the last several weeks, and continue bolstering their reign. As the top heels in a blossoming division, it will be up to WWE Creative to build a duo of faces that can draw the kind of reaction needed to take the belts off the champions.

The long-term goal for the tag team championships should be for The New Day to drop them to a deserving team at SummerSlam. With a huge crowd and the second-largest stage of the WWE year, a title change would be monumental.

While there are several tag teams who could conceivably win the titles, the most dangerous duo is Harper and Rowan. As unusual as the heel vs. heel dynamic is, these are two entirely different kinds of bad guys.

The hope is that The New Day put on a great match with the Prime Time Players at Money in the Bank and make them look like stars before retaining their championships. After once again successfully defending the titles at Battleground against the flavor of the month in July, it will finally be time for the champions to put someone over at SummerSlam.

After watching The New Day dominate for as long as they have, their championship loss will mean even more for the team that walks away with the belts. The New Day’s red-hot streak must continue at Money in the Bank.
