Superstars WWE Should Book as Future Guests on Steve Austin's Podcast
Thanks to Steve Austin and his podcast, the WWE Network's hottest ticket has been a program with zero bumps, zero chair shots, zero wrestling.
Austin's charisma and name power, along with his ability to draw great stories out of his guests, has made him an invaluable asset as an interviewer. WWE has a myriad of options in terms of who Stone Cold should use those skills on next, from Austin's biggest rival to a man who once overshadowed him.
As WWE announced on its corporate site, Austin's live chats will now be monthly.
That means the company will be in need of stars who have been as big a draw as previous guests. To find the best candidates for future slots, WWE needs to seek out Superstars with massive names, plenty of personality and a past ripe for exploring.
Folks who have not been a constant interview subject get bonus points, as there would be an added air of novelty to their appearance.
Other Options
1 of 6- Hulk Hogan
- Edge
- Daniel Bryan
Hogan remains a transcendent star. Even though he's been interviewed a lot, he still deserves a mention on name power alone.
It's a no-brainer to invite him on at some point.
We've heard far less from Edge as of late. The Rated-R Superstar has slipped away from the spotlight since his retirement. Bringing him on Steve Austin's show will create solid buzz, as fans will just be pumped to see him around.
He's also a funny, likable guy who is sure to have a healthy supply of stories to pull from.
As the most contemporary Superstar of this group, Bryan can offer insight into the locker room today, and he and Austin could compare experiences in their respective eras. Although Bryan is a charming guy in an "aw shucks" kind of way, he's not as big of a presence as other stars Austin could bring aboard.
Brock Lesnar
2 of 6WWE would want to save this for a good while from now as Paul Heyman was just on, but Brock Lesnar would make Steve Austin's podcast even more must-see.
For one, he's today's biggest star. Even though he's a member of the current roster, he shows up so infrequently that he remains a special attraction. That will include an interview with Austin, especially because Austin and Heyman teased a WrestleMania match between these two.
The potential tension that could arise between them would draw in curious fans.
Lesnar can talk about his UFC experience and his previous run-ins with Austin. The Beast Incarnate is not a great talker, but he's intense and larger than life. Plus, he hasn't exactly circled the interview circuit.
There would be plenty of newness to seeing Lesnar in this spot.
Jake Roberts
3 of 6Jake Roberts with a live mic is as engrossing as it is dangerous.
The Hall of Famer is an outspoken man with a dark past. The producers would have to set some ground rules about just how much he can dive into in regard to his drug use and personal demons, but even watered-down Roberts stories are sure to be gold.
He brings in a different crowd than current stars, offering a bit of nostalgia to the fans who watched him DDT his foes into the mat.
Roberts is a tremendously gifted speaker and has always been known to have a great mind for the business. His thoughts on the industry today would be great TV—as would seeing him reminisce about the highs and lows of his career.
The Rock
4 of 6The biggest draw Steve Austin could hope for would also be the biggest headache for whoever would be in charge of trying to schedule his appearance. Somewhere in between making hit movies and appearing on Saturday Night Live, though, The Rock has to have a little bit of time.
A household name and movie star, The Rock's star power is obvious.
He also has the benefit of having known and worked with Stone Cold for so long. There are bound to be countless behind-the-scenes stories these two could share with each other.
The Rock is also the kind of entertainer who can make something as mundane as a podcast interview something special.
Shawn Michaels
5 of 6While not on the same level as Hulk Hogan or The Rock in terms of stardom, Shawn Michaels remains one of the biggest names in the industry.
And like Brock Lesnar, he prefers seclusion. Michaels is not often on WWE TV and not often blabbing away to an interviewer. A chat with him and Steve Austin would be fresh and compelling as a result.
Michaels and Austin's history together as rivals spices up this possibility. The same goes for Michaels' past troubles. The Texas Rattlesnake is likely to get him to dig into the darker days of his career, when he was a backstage diva and harder person to deal with overall.
Austin would surely find something intriguing questions to pose to The Heartbreak Kid about the Montreal Screwjob, the Madison Square Garden incident or posing in Playgirl.
Sting
6 of 6If WWE can't lean on Sting as an in-ring performer, it can use its current relationship with him to draw in fans by having him sit across from Steve Austin on the WWE Network.
Sting and Austin crossed paths many a time during their time at WCW together. At the time, The Stinger was one of the company's top-tier stars and Austin was the underused, undervalued grappler struggling to gain momentum. That time period alone would offer plenty to talk about on the podcast.
Sting's stardom makes him a must-have guest for the show. He will bring in an older crowd, much like Jake Roberts.
And with so much uncertainty about his future with WWE and whether we have seen his last match, fans are sure to tune in to see how he answers questions on those subjects.
