Mark Jackson to Texas A&M: Aggies Land 4-Star DE Prospect

Joseph ZuckerMay 30, 2015

Last year, the Texas A&M Aggies ranked 22nd in team sacks. The pass rush should remain a strength going forward for head coach Kevin Sumlin, especially after adding 4-star defensive end Mark Jackson to his 2016 recruiting class Saturday.

Jackson announced on Twitter that he's packing his bags for College Station, Texas:

According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Jackson is the ninth-best weak-side defensive end and 179th overall player in 2016. He joins 4-star cornerback Travon Fuller and 3-star corner Charles Oliver as Sumlin looks to beef up on the defensive side of the ball.

Billy Liucci of TexAgs feels that Jackson will fill a major need for the Aggies in another year:

Rivals.com's Mark Passwaters added that A&M worked hard to ensure that Jackson didn't wind up with an in-state rival:

Jackson is a well-balanced defensive end. He's equally capable of getting after the passer and stopping the run. That versatility should allow Aggies defensive coordinator John Chavis to line him up on either side of the line and give him a variety of assignments.

Jackson is listed at 6'2.5" and 226 pounds, so he may have trouble early on dealing with stronger offensive linemen, but he should add a little bit more muscle after arriving at Texas A&M.

While this isn't the kind of commitment that will single-handedly turn the Aggies defense around, Sumlin and his staff did a great job of bolstering the defensive line.
