Best Trick-Shot Videos in Sports History
The age of the Internet has given us many gifts, including the viral trick-shot video. Once a booming phenomenon, these stunt videos haven't gone anywhere yet, and if anything, they're only getting better.
The great thing about trick shots is that almost any sport can be a part of it—bowling, Frisbee, even archery. Plus there are always the tried and true basketball long shots and unreal tennis returns.
From young Trick Shot Titus to the bros from Dude Perfect, let's take a look at some of the greatest all-time trick-shot videos.
Bryan Brothers Golf
1 of 25George and Wesley Bryan are brothers who specialize in golf trick shots. They both played in college at the University of South Carolina and started recording these shots for fun. The brothers have recently teamed up with GoPro to make even more videos.
Dude Perfect Archery
2 of 25The bros at Dude Perfect are at it again with trick-shot archery. The best part is the William Tell shot at the beginning, but the underwater bowling pin is a close second.
Boring Chelsea
3 of 25In April, Chelsea endured "boring" chants during a draw against Arsenal. Striker Didier Drogba posted the team's response to Instagram—an epic trick-shot video that is anything but boring.
Odell Beckham Super Bowl
4 of 25Who better to make a trick-shot video than freakishly athletic wide receiver/master of the one-handed grab Odell Beckham Jr.? The dudes at Dude Perfect thought so, too, and they teamed up with the NFL star for a Super Bowl video.
Trick Shot Titus
5 of 25Trick Shot Titus was only two years old when his basketball video went viral in 2013. He has gone on to make more videos and has even appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The latest installment features a now-four-year-old Titus taking on Lake Tahoe.
LeBron Full-Court Shot
6 of 25LeBron James hit an incredible full-court shot during practice for the NBA playoffs. Some people think James would make a good NFL wide receiver—what about a quarterback?
Epic Drop
7 of 25No trick-shot list would be complete without the obligatory way-high-up basketball shot. This video was taken in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, at the Euromast, a tower with a deck 96 meters above ground—that's almost 315 feet.
J.J. Watt Box Jump
8 of 25It's unclear whether box jumps count at trick shots, but let's just say they do. Houston Texans defensive end and insane athlete J.J. Watt has made a habit of attempting new heights with this particular feat. In April, he successfully completed a 61-inch jump—that's over five feet.
Slip'N Slide
9 of 25This YouTube video features a lot of trick shots, but the watersports stunts in the beginning are particularly impressive. There is a makeshift Slip'N Slide, a boat and, of course, Jet Skis. Making a basket while moving at high speeds on a Jet Ski is pretty boss.
Zach Smith Long Snapping
10 of 25Bet you didn't know trick-shot long snapping was a thing. As it turns out, it is, as evidenced by this video from Zach Smith, long snapper at USC. His video went viral in 2013, and it has over 16,000 YouTube views.
Johnny Mac, Trick-Shot Quarterback
11 of 25In 2011, Johnny McEntee was the starting quarterback for the UConn Huskies. He is, however, way more famous for being the first "trick-shot quarterback." McEntee made this video, which went viral and helped start the ongoing trend of trick-shot compilations.
Trick-Shot Quarterback 2.0
12 of 25Not long after Johnny Mac's trick shots swept the Internet, Alex Tanney of Monmouth College made a video of his own. And although no one likes a copycat, Tanney's video is pretty good—maybe even better than Johnny Mac's original. Tanney was later signed by the Dallas Cowboys, but he's never seen game action in the NFL.
Connor Powers Baseball
13 of 25In 2012, Connor Powers was a prospect in the San Diego Padres system. He was also the star of a video full of baseball trick shots. You know how some hitters can seemingly just put the ball wherever they want? Powers is one of those people.
Nate Robinson Flies
14 of 25What is the NBA Slam Dunk Contest if not a kind of trick-shot competition? Nate Robinson performed one of the most memorable dunks in the history of the competition in 2009, when he jumped over Dwight Howard's head. Howard is 6'11", by the way.
Matt Ammendola, Laces Out
15 of 25Matt Ammendola, a place-kicker committed to Oklahoma State, proved the hold doesn't have to be good for a kick to make it through the uprights. This is probably a good sign for his ability to perform under pressure.
Baseball Repetition
16 of 25This looks like an impressive feat of muscle memory, but it also looks a little like magic. An unnamed baseball player hit a ball around infield nets, over and over again, without it dropping to the ground. Then he started doing it with two baseballs at the same time. YouTube commenters suggest this was fake, but either way, it's fun to watch.
GoPro Billiards
17 of 25Pool is a challenging game of precise skill that favors those who actually remember something from geometry class. This billiards trick-shot video from GoPro is so amazing it almost looks fake. According to the YouTube description, the talented individual is a Polish virtuoso by the name of Ziemowit Janaszek.
Bowling with Jason Belmonte
18 of 25Dude Perfect's trick-shot videos don't discriminate—no, they include almost any sport you can think of. One particularly awesome one is this bowling video, featuring professional bowler Jason Belmonte.
Gael Monfils Tennis Shots
19 of 25Gael Monfils is a French tennis player famous for performing crazy trick shots during actual matches. Here is just one example against Novak Djokovic at the 2014 U.S. Open. At one point, he even headed the tennis ball.
Hockey Super Skills
20 of 25Russian hockey player Nikita Gusev plays for the Kontinental Hockey League, and he's a master puck-handler. Gusev proved as much during a KHL Super Skills Competition in January when he threw in an insane goal. Honestly, it looked more like a lacrosse shot than anything usually seen in a hockey rink.
Tim Knoll BMX
21 of 25A lot of BMX riders can perform some pretty crazy stunts, but this video from freestyle rider Tim Knoll is just unbelievable. Seriously, what is he even doing at the end, flipping over that car?
Brodie Smith Frisbee
22 of 25Brodie Smith plays in the recently formed American Ultimate Disc League, but before that, he became a trick-shot Internet sensation. Smith started making videos after he graduated college in 2011, according to Al Rieger of ChicagoSide. A Frisbee is not an easy thing to control, and some of these are pretty insane.
Motocross Triple Backflip
23 of 25In April, Josh Sheehan became the first individual to land a triple backflip on a motocross bike. He completed the trick at Travis Pastrana's action sports park in Maryland, going into the jump at a speed of 60 mph.
World Cup Trick Shots
24 of 25YouTube sensation Remi Gaillard released a trick-shot video just in time for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The video is a little long, but it's worth a watch if you're into soccer tricks. How he pulled off that tire/ball trick at the 1:46 mark might be one of the world's great mysteries.
Brad Perry Trick Shot
25 of 25Brad Perry is a hockey trainer who once dreamed up a trick shot for inclusion in D2: The Mighty Ducks—this, according to Luke Fox of Sportsnet. The scene was apparently deleted from the movie, but the shot is no less incredible. Man's a magician.
