Rusev Out of Elimination Chamber

Sunday, May 31

WWE confirmed that Rusev was not medically cleared to compete in the Elimination Chamber match for the vacant Intercontinental Championship.

According to WWE.com, the 29-year-old Superstar suffered a lower-leg injury Tuesday during his match against Ryback for Thursday's taped edition of SmackDown.

With Rusev out, WWE will have to settle on a new sixth entrant into the Chamber match. That replacement has not yet been named.

Prior to the injury, Rusev and Dolph Ziggler were likely to further their feud over Lana in that match, which has become a staple in the midcard over the past couple of weeks.

That rivalry will be damaged further if the injury forces Rusev to miss extended time past Elimination Chamber, but it could prove to be a blessing in disguise since he is coming off three consecutive pay-per-view losses and could use some time away in order to let that memory fade.

Rusev is one of the better heels on the roster and an impressive in-ring performer, though, which is why WWE officials and fans are undoubtedly hopeful that the ailment is nothing more than a temporary setback.
