Twitter Reacts to Sevilla's Entertaining Europa League Final Victory over Dnipro

On a day dominated by news of controversy at FIFA and the utterly shocking revelation that the Mighty Zlatan Ibrahimovic's biography is a sham, it was almost easy to forget that the final of Europe's secondary competition took place in Warsaw...

Despite the ambivalence, Europa League holders Sevilla were taking on Ukrainian underdogs Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk for the right to compete in next season's Champions League. Despite knocking out Napoli, Ajax and Olympiakos on their way to the Stadion Narodowy, it seemed that Dnipro were an unknown quantity in world football...

Regardless of the apparent obliviousness among Twitter's English-speaking contingent, fans on their way to the stadium were certainly getting in the spirit of things...

The Ukrainians were certainly viewed as the weaker contestant, with many assuming it would be a routine win for the Spanish side...

Many were also aghast that former Blackburn striker Nikola Kalinic had managed to reach the lofty heights of a major European final...

However, the Kalinic doubters were made to eat their Tweets in the seventh minute when he put Dnipro ahead with an expertly taken header... 

As Dnipro started to trend, the goodwill for the underdogs slowly started to filter in...

One fan, however, didn't like the idea of Dnipro coming in and ruining the natural order of things...

After going down, Sevilla enjoyed plenty of chances and finally made the breakthrough for the equaliser when Grzegorz Krychowiak put the ball through traffic...

A few minutes later, the Spanish side took the lead for the first time when Jose Antonio Reyes threaded a superb pass through to Carlos Bacca...

The Ukrainians, however, refused to let Sevilla's constant pressure get to them, and they managed to find an equaliser through a superb Ruslan Rotan free-kick just before half-time...

As the half-time whistle blew, the fans who were in two minds about watching the final were certainly glad they took the time to do so...

Aside from providing plenty of thrills, the game also seemed to arouse interest in long-term Liverpool target Yevhen Konoplyanka...

The action slowed in the second half as fewer chances fell to both sides—perhaps they were all distracted by the terrifying photobomber in front of Sir Alex Ferguson?

In the 73rd minute, Carlos Bacca was able to shake the photobomber's gaze long enough to put Los Rojiblancos 3-2 ahead...

The Colombian's success led to lots of brilliant/cringeworthy puns...

Despite Dnipro's valiant attempts, they were unable to stop Sevilla from lifting their second successive Europa League trophy to become the most successful team in the competition's history...
