Believe It! Top Indy Drivers Don't Like The New Features On The Car
Two of the last three races , both ovals, have been very entertaining , lots of passing and even some four wide racing, good for the sport. Right?
Well not so fast! some of the top drivers in the IRL donโt like that โpack racingโ, if my memory serves me right, that was a quote from some top drivers.
Too many cars racing closely, I guess that is just too much work.
Too crazy! was another quote from a top driver.
I do understand the dangers of racing closely in an open wheel car, but drivers also need to understand the fans love that kind of racing.
The in line parade racing is boring. Agree?
They just need to fallow the NASCAR (fallowed by some) gentlemanโs agreement of giving room when is appropriate.
In INDY racings case, lots of room.
Iโm sure the governing body, owners and drivers in the IRL can talk this out and set rules that would makeโpack racingโ safe for everyone.
The fans are loving the last two oval races, it would be a huge mistake ifย the IRLย got ridย of the changes that made the car more suitable for racing.
The best new feature is โthe boostโ , it has proved to be the key to more passing.
Todayโs fans are fickle with their money, the new race fans are the 30 second MTV generation, they donโt have time to wait forever to be entertained.
INDY drivers would be better off to figure out how to race close and be safe, it may take a little more work, but the benefit will be huge, like:
Fans in the seats! How can you argue against that!
