Moustakas Leaves Saturday's Game

Saturday, May 23

The team’s official Twitter account noted Saturday that Moustakas left the game with a left clavicle contusion. Christian Colon entered as his replacement.

After the game, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reported that Moustakas pretty sore and could get Sunday off.

If Moustakas is out for an extended period of time, it is a significant blow for the Kansas City lineup. He entered play Saturday with a sparkling .335 batting average, four home runs and 15 RBI as a critical bat in the middle of the order.

Fortunately for Kansas City fans, Matthew DeFranks of Fox Sports Kansas City noted that Moustakas is listed as day-to-day.

That is excellent news for the Royals because they can ill afford to lose Moustakas for too long, even though they sit in first place in the American League Central in the early going.

Colon will likely be asked to fill in at the hot corner in the meantime. The youngster made his Major League Baseball debut last season and is not an established option like Moustakas but does bring speed and the ability to hit for average to the table (.333 last year in a limited sample size of 21 games).

He is capable of creating scoring opportunities by getting on base, but the Royals will eventually need Moustakas back if they hope to defend their American League crown.
