Will Smith Ejected for Foreign Substance on Arm: Latest Details and Reaction

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Will Smith was ejected during the seventh inning of Thursday's 10-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves for having a foreign substance on his arm.

On Friday, MLB Communications announced Smith would be suspended eight games, and that Smith would appeal the decision.

Smith, a southpaw, had the substance on his non-throwing arm. The towering, 6'5", 25-year-old was in a tight jam before crew chief Jim Joyce sent Smith off the diamond at Turner Field, having thrown just four pitches with one out and the bases loaded.

The Brewers have struggled with both hitting and pitching this season, so it will be difficult to lose him during his suspension. He didn't really need any added advantage, having been a rare bright spot for Milwaukee. He's posted a 2.84 ERA and 18 strikeouts in just 12.2 innings of work.
