Chelsea Transfer News: Latest on Jese Rodriguez and Raphael Varane Rumours
Real Madrid "plan to sell" forward Jese Rodriguez at the end of the season, according to Alvaro de la Rosa of AS. This is potentially enticing news for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who was linked with a move for the Spanish youngster in March, as reported by David Wright of the Express.
De La Rosa suggests Los Blancos will insert a buyback clause in Jese's contract if he departs, allowing Madrid to re-sign him in the future. The club utilised this option when they brought right-back Dani Carvajal back to the Bernabeu after his breakout year with Bayer Leverkusen, and they could initiate the same strategy to reclaim Alvaro Morata, who has enjoyed a quality campaign with Juventus.

Madrid cover their backs by inserting this clause while also receiving the funds needed to improve the squad in an immediate capacity. Jese is still working back to full fitness after his cruciate ligament injury and is struggling to make an impact in the Spanish capital.
The 22-year-old has made two starts and 13 substitute appearances in La Liga this season, tallying two goals, per WhoScored.com. He has completed 90 minutes twice since he returned from injury in December and continues to suffer under the weight of Madrid's tremendous firepower.
Carlo Ancelotti shows no sign of dropping Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema or Gareth Bale when all are fit. Javier Hernandez's recent run of goals in Benzema's absence may have also added pressure on Jese.

In April, Ancelotti suggested he doesn't want to see Jese leave. "The situation is clear: Jese is going to stay here," Ancelotti said, per De La Rosa. However, with Madrid's trophyless season confirmed, Ancelotti may not be around to block the move during the summer.
Jese would likely struggle to hold down a regular first-team place at Chelsea. However, he may benefit from working under Mourinho again. The former Real boss loves to install hard-working, energetic qualities into his best forwards. We've seen the transformation of Eden Hazard over the last two years, and that's something he could also implement in Jese's game.
The Chelsea boss is also a known lover of Raphael Varane, whom he previously signed for Madrid. Simon Johnson of the London Evening Standard indicated Mourinho would make a move for the defender in March, but Varane has hinted at his desire to stay.

Speaking after Barcelona confirmed the Spanish title on Sunday, Varane told Madrid's official website, "We have to congratulate the champions because they have done very well. We'll try to win it next year." His willingness to be a part of next season's challenge hints that a possible Mourinho reunion isn't on the cards.
B/R UK's Garry Hayes recently discussed how Varane would improve Chelsea during the summer:
Mourinho's side cantered to the Premier League title but will anticipate their English rivals spending big during the summer. Progression is key to remaining atop the division for multiple years, as highlighted by no side retaining their crown since Manchester United in 2009.
Jese and Varane are talented youngsters who have major futures ahead of them, but right now, neither seems likely to frequent Stamford Bridge on a weekly basis.
