Griffey's Goodbye?
![]()
Say so long to The Kid.
This is it for Ken Griffey Jr., one more month of baseball is all that’s left.
Yet we haven’t heard a peep from MLB about Griffey’s departure, although you’d think baseball would do a better job of sending off one its best players of all time.
Where’s the celebration, where’s the coverage, where’s the awareness that this is the end for one of the game’s best all-around talents to ever play?
Log onto the Mariners official web site and the header is dedicated to Ichiro’s season hit record…nine straight years of 200-plus hits and counting. Nothing about Junior, though.
Wasn’t the point of Griffey’s return to Seattle to bask in the glory of the city’s golden child?
Am I being overly sensitive to my personal all-time favorite player being snubbed, or is there another year of baseball left in Griffey’s legs and I just don’t know it?
I urge you to take notice, either way, because players like Griffey Jr. are a once in a lifetime treat.
If baseball won’t appreciate that, I still will.
