Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: Best MLB Position Player Picks for May 17

Rubber games on Sunday will decide not only several series across the MLB, but also the fate of DraftKings owners everywhere. With 15 games set for Sunday, picking out the best MLB position players can be tough to manage.

Before the first pitch is thrown, take a look at these picks for MLB position players and lock them into your lineup.

Catcher: Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants ($4,300)

Every player on this list is currently heating up, but Buster Posey is certifiably on fire.

The San Francisco Giants catcher was averaging 15 fantasy points in the previous three games leading up to Saturday. Posey then went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI against the Cincinnati Reds to continue that tear.

A power hitter at the catcher spot and a potential first baseman at a reduced price, Posey is perfect for either spot. Facing off with the Reds again in the Great American Ball Park, make sure to secure Posey in every lineup on Sunday.

First Baseman: Edwin Encarnacion, Toronto Blue Jays ($4,600)

The .237 batting average is alarming, but what he does when actually makes contact more than makes up for it. Edwin Encarnacion came off the bench for a pinch-hit appearance on Saturday and mashed a two-run homer for the Blue Jays.

Even with only one at-bat on Saturday, Encarnacion kept his average over the last 10 contests at more than 11 fantasy points per game. He has never faced Collin McHugh, but Encarnacion should still continue his streak against the Astros starter.

Second Baseman: Jose Altuve, Houston Astros ($4,700)

Even when he's not hitting, Jose Altuve is still a critical component to every fantasy lineup. On Saturday, the Houston Astros second baseman went 0-for-3 but still scored a run after drawing a walk.

That doesn't happen often for Altuve.

Hitting .331/.386/.490, Altuve can typically find his way on base with his bat alone. With two 20-plus-fantasy-point performances in his last three games, look for Altuve to repeat that success against Toronto—again.

Third Baseman: Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Lions ($4,900)

How good is Miguel Cabrera? His 400th homer launched on Saturday put him on an historic track. Baseball Tonight notes how his statistics thus far compare to one of the greatest hitters in MLB history:

I could just leave that stat there and say every owner just needs to pencil him into their lineup. Or I could mention that he now has four home runs in his last three games. Oh, and that he's also averaging 12.7 fantasy points on the road this season.

There are several numbers that can be thrown around to convince owners to slot him into Sunday's lineup. Finding reasons why to not put him on a roster at less than $5,000 is the difficult part.

Outfielder: Giancarlo Stanton, Miami Marlins ($5,100)

Speaking of players cranking out homers over the last games, Giancarlo Stanton has been launching bombs recently. Not just four-baggers, but absolute tape-measure shots of more than 450 feet on a regular basis.

In his last four games, Stanton has amassed six total hits, four homers, seven RBI, two walks and four runs. Even at a high price, the Marlins slugger is more than worthy of the salary as a No. 1 outfielder.
