2009 NCAA Football Week One Rundown

First week of NCAA Football starts this week, Sept. 3, 2009!

Let's rundown the two best games this Thursday.

South Carolina +5 vs. NC Sate -5

Grumblings in the SEC point to South Carolina as a team in decline, not unlike its coach Steve Spurrier after leaving Florida. 

Don’t believe the hype; the defense brings back nearly all its starters (many who were injured last year), and the fun and gun is still alive and well in Columbia. 

If the Cocks have a shot at the talented SEC they need a win against NC State to help them move in the right direction.  More consistent play is vital on both sides of the ball, but the defense needs to do a better job against the run to compete this year. 

NC State will be playing at home and needs to grab a win to jumpstart the season.  The Wolfpack are notoriously slow starters, but this year’s team should be able to score a ton of points. 

Can coach Tim O’Brien make the defense match the success of its offense?  It doesn't help when your best defensive player LB Nate Irving is done for the year. 

The team will be tested the first game against the offensively aggressive Gamecocks of South Carolina. 

Why watch the game? 

Revenge game.  South Carolina killed the Wolfpack 34-0 in Columbia last year.

#16 Oregon +4 vs. #14 Boise State -4

Okay, I can’t wait to see this game, and I will watch it no matter how angry it makes my wife and dog.

Newly ordained head coach and ex-offensive coordinator Chip Kelly gets a tough road game to open his head coaching career for the Oregon Ducks. 

Oregon remains a talented team and should be explosive offensively, which is good news since they play in the offensively crazy PAC-10. 

RB LeGarrette Blunt will be running wild behind QB Jeremiah Massoli, who has no outstanding wide receivers to pitch to.  More over, Kelly may want to keep four or so QB’s on hand just in case after last year's Broncos game.  

Any way you add it up, Oregon is in transition losing key players and its head coach.

The Boise State Broncos are out to prove once again they are a BCS Championship-caliber team as they get the 16th ranked Oregon Ducks at home to help their case.  

Boise has the talent on both sides of the ball to compete against any team in the NCAA due to its never-fading talent pool.  Look at one of the best coaches in the game to motivate Kellen Moore and company to move the ball against the Ducks and get a win towards its third consecutive undefeated season.

Why watch the game?

Revenge game two!  Boise State upset Oregon 37-32 in Eugene last year.
