Former WWE Superstar Lance Storm approved of the intense action:
WrestleZone.com thought it was a strong match as well:
RingsideXcess didn't want the action to end:
After the match, New Day celebrated with a glass of milk:
Kofi Kingston and Big E won the straps from Cesaro and Kidd at Extreme Rules, thanks to some outside interference from Xavier Woods. The New Day used dirty tactics to keep the belts in a return match on SmackDown, but it was inevitable that the former champs would get another shot at the pay-per-view.
Since both teams showed their in-ring acumen at Extreme Rules in what was arguably the best match on the entire card, it was only fitting that a 2-out-of-3 Falls stipulation was added to their Payback rematch.
Due to the fact that Cesaro and Kidd are considered to be two of the best technical wrestlers in WWE, The Swiss Superman was quite confident that he and his partners would take back the copper-plated titles:
At the same time, Big E insulted his opponents and claimed that The New Day would continue its reign as Tag Team champions:
Something ultimately had to give, and it did in the form of the incumbent champs finding a way to keep the titles in their possession.
Over the past several weeks, WWE's once-moribund tag team division has seemingly received a boost. Cesaro and Kidd were previously the only noteworthy tandem, but that has changed, thanks to the sudden emergence of The New Day as a quality unit.
Not only are Kofi, Big E and Woods all good in the ring, but their character development has improved as well to the point where they are now an entertaining heel trio due to how they react to what the crowd does.
In addition to the teams that vied for the titles at Payback, duos such as The Ascension, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, The Prime Time Players and Curtis Axel and Macho Mandow are starting to pick up some steam as well.
That is a positive sign since the Tag Team Championships are due to be put on the line in an Elimination Chamber match at the WWE Network-exclusive pay-per-view in a couple of weeks.
Also, while The New Day win was significant to some degree, the fact that it will have to defend the titles against multiples teams at Elimination Chamber certainly takes some of the shine away.
Even if the result ends up not mattering in two weeks, Cesaro, Kidd and The New Day all acquitted themselves well Sunday night, which is a great sign for tag team wrestling in WWE moving forward.
