How Twitter Reacted to Juventus' Champions League Triumph over Real Madrid

Real Madrid went into Wednesday's crunch tie with Juventus knowing a 1-0 win would guarantee them entry to their second consecutive Champions League final and a date with a few familiar faces from Catalunya.

Juventus, meanwhile, knew a draw or better would send them to the Big Game for the first time in 12 years, helping to restore the reputation of Italian football. 

And through one of Real's former players, Alvaro Morata, they got it, as our friend @_EOW_ captured:

The mood on Twitter before this perfectly poised tie was one of palpable excitement...

"Bernabeu" was trending before the game, thanks mainly to the spectacular welcome Los Blancos received...

Paul Pogba's return to the Juve starting XI also generated a lot of buzz...

There was also plenty of chat about the man no Madrid player likes to speak or pass to: Gareth Bale. Most folks seem to believe the solution to the Welshman's recent problems is a visit to the hairdressers...

Bale didn't help his reputation among fans at the Casa Blanca when he put a great chance to open the scoring over the bar in the first minute...

It was end-to-end action in the opening moments, and Cristiano Ronaldo came close when he lined up one of his patented free-kicks...

In the 23rd minute, the Old Lady conceded a penalty when Giorgio Chiellini clumsily clattered into James Rodriguez. Ronaldo made no mistake from the spot...

As the hour mark approached, it became clear that Mr. Pogba wasn't having the greatest game of his life...

Despite the criticism, Pogba did manage to assist Alvaro Morata for his crucial equaliser. Much like in the first leg, the former Madrid star refused to celebrate...

Not long after the goal, Bale went down even further in the estimation of Los Blancos fans when he missed several key chances...

Madrid needed a goal to force extra time, but despite several chances for Bale and his colleagues, it never came. The Old Lady defied the odds and deservedly reached the European promised land. Roll on Berlin...
