Xavi Becomes 1st Player with 150 Champions League Appearances

Bleacher Report MilestonesMay 12, 2015

Barcelona midfielder Xavi became the first footballer with 150 career Champions League appearances when he took the pitch in Tuesday's second-leg semifinal match against Bayern Munich, per ESPN's Paul Carr.

While not part of the starting 11, Xavi came on for longtime teammate Andres Iniesta in the 75th minute, marking the last of Barcelona's three substitutions.

It wasn't one of the 35-year-old's more memorable performances, as he didn't record any significant statistics in his 18 or so minutes on the pitch.

Barcelona led 5-3 on aggregate when Xavi entered the game after taking a 3-0 lead in the first leg back at home.

While Bayern did win Tuesday's match at Allianz Arena by a score of 3-2, the German giants never threatened to knock Barcelona out, as Xavi's squad held a 2-1 lead at halftime, good for a 5-1 advantage on aggregate.

Oddly enough, Xavi figures to soon have company in the 150-match club, with Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas poised to make the 150th Champions League appearance of his career Wednesday against Juventus.

Should Madrid overcome a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, Casillas and Xavi could both make the 151st Champions League appearances of their respective careers in the 2015 Champions League final.

Of course, there will be much more at stake than individual records, as the Spanish giants have never met in a European final.
