Barcelona Fixtures: La Liga Schedule, Table and Title Run-in for 2014-15

Mark BuckinghamMay 8, 2015

Barcelona are in control of the title race in La Liga with three games to go, but there is no margin for error in the fight to hold off Real Madrid.

Luis Enrique’s side are two points clear of Real and have a treble in their sights. Barcelona are scheduled to play Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final, and they beat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

They face Real Sociedad on Saturday, but it is unclear if and when their final two league games, along with the Copa del Rey final, will go ahead. Due to a row with the government, the Spanish football federation has suspended all domestic games indefinitely from Saturday, 16 May onward, per Reuters (via the Guardian).

Barcelona vs. Real Sociedad

The impressive nature of Barcelona’s victory over Bayern has only increased the expectation of winning three trophies this season, and Neymar is ready for the fight.

Neymar said, per Moises Llorens of AS: “The aim is the treble. Since the beginning of the season it has been our goal and we’re getting closer all the time. On Saturday there’s another league game and we’ll have to fight to win the title.”

Avenging a shock defeat in early January will be on Barcelona’s minds when Sociedad visit the Camp Nou. David Moyes’ side won 1-0 at home when Lionel Messi started the game on the bench.

There is no danger of Messi being among the substitutes in the return fixture, and Barcelona will be confident of picking up the three points.

Barcelona have won the last 16 meetings in La Liga against Sociedad at the Camp Nou, and a 17th win looks to be a formality. Enrique is certainly expecting the support of the home fans, per Barcelona’s official website:

Repeats of the recent 8-0 and 6-0 thrashings of Cordoba and Getafe, respectively, are unlikely, but Barcelona haven’t conceded a goal in their last six games in all competitions, per the club’s official website.

Prediction: Barcelona win

Atletico Madrid vs. Barcelona

This is the game that has the potential to decide the title, especially if Barcelona and Real Madrid both win this weekend.

Atletico will be formidable opponents and were unbeaten in six games against Barcelona last season. They also crucially beat Barcelona 1-0 at home in the Champions League.

However, in La Liga, Barcelona are unbeaten in their last four visits to the Vicente Calderon. They have won three of those games 2-1 as well.

Back in January, Barcelona beat Atletico 3-1 at home in the league and also won 3-2 at the Calderon in the Copa del Rey.

With Barcelona’s return meeting against Bayern on Tuesday and the game against Atletico not scheduled until the following Sunday, providing the strike is called off, there is enough time for Enrique’s players to recover for what will be a physically demanding contest.

Prediction: Barcelona win

Barcelona vs. Deportivo La Coruna

The final game of the season will be a carnival atmosphere so long as Barcelona are still top of the table.

Deportivo are 18th in the table and may already be relegated by the time they visit the Camp Nou. But, even if Deportivo are still fighting to stay up, there is nothing to suggest they can spoil the title celebrations.

They have not scored in their last four away games against Barcelona, which isn’t the record you want given the meanness of the leaders’ current defence.

Barcelona won 4-0 in A Coruna earlier this season, and a repeat of that scoreline is more than possible, especially if they score an early goal.

Prediction: Barcelona win
