NHL Playoffs 2015: Stanley Cup Title Odds, Latest Schedule and Picks

Rob GoldbergMay 8, 2015

While the second round of the NHL playoffs has featured some one-sided battles to this point, nothing is over until all four games are won.

The Chicago Blackhawks were able to complete their sweep over the Minnesota Wild with a 4-3 win in Game 4, but the Tampa Bay Lightning weren't as fortunate. The Montreal Canadiens were down 3-0 but took their first step toward a comeback with a Game 4 win. This shows why you should never count out a team, regardless of the series score.

There is a lot of action remaining in the conference semifinals, so here is a look at what to expect for the rest of this round in the hunt for the Stanley Cup.

Montreal Canadiens vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

After a dramatic win in Game 3, it seemed the Tampa Bay Lightning were ready to sweep this series. However, the Montreal Canadiens came back with an impressive showing in Game 4, getting ahead 5-0 before winning 6-2.

Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports gave some helpful advice to Montreal:

The offensive onslaught displayed by the Canadiens should provide plenty of hope going forward. With the series returning to Montreal, they have the chance to keep the momentum and earn another win in Game 5.

Unfortunately, four wins in a row will be too difficult against a tough opponent like Tampa Bay. Ben Bishop has been too good to have more poor showings like he did Thursday, and the Lightning will be able to close out the victory.

Prediction: Lightning win in 6

New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals

Although every game has been close, the Washington Capitals have done what is necessary to earn a 3-1 advantage in the series. The key has been the play of Braden Holtby, who has the best save percentage in NHL history through nine games, according to Hockey-Reference.com (h/t Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated).

The New York Rangers haven't been able to get much past the goalie, with the exception of three scores in Game 2. Even if Game 5 is a better showing for the offense, it will be hard to get a win in Game 6 on the road.

ESPN's John Buccigross broke down the record of the two sides in this situation:

Washington is too good to give up a 3-1 lead and should be able to move on to the next round.

Prediction: Capitals win in 6

Anaheim Ducks vs. Calgary Flames

The Anaheim Ducks suffered a disappointing overtime loss in Game 3, preventing the squad from taking a commanding 3-0 lead. However, the entire team took some time to clear their heads with a day off before Game 4.

Defenseman Cam Fowler discussed the benefits of the rest, via Aaron Vickers of NHL.com:

"

At some point, especially during a long playoff run, you feel like hockey's on your mind all the time, 24/7. That can be a good thing sometimes, but especially when you have two days in between games, it's nice to take a day to unwind. We still accomplished the things we wanted to as a group and had some great practices. But I think mentally it was good for our group to get away and unwind a little bit. I thought it was a positive experience for everybody.

"

Anaheim was one of the top teams in the NHL throughout the regular season with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry playing well offensively. This duo has been just as strong in the postseason and should help make a difference for the rest of the series.

The Calgary Flames obviously have a lot of talent, but they won't be able to prolong this series.

Prediction: Ducks win in 5
