Kalil Discusses Surgery, Recovery
Wednesday, May 27
Kalil talked about his recovery from surgery, telling Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press that this is the best he's felt since joining the Vikings. "I’m the heaviest and strongest I’ve been. I’m about 320 now," Kalil said, according to Tomasson.
On May 7, Tom Pelissero of USA Today reported that Kalil "underwent arthroscopic surgery on both knees this offseason as well as injections designed to help patients deal with joint pain, two people with knowledge of the procedures told USA Today Sports."
Ideally, Kalil will be more effective on the field this season because of the surgeries. The former No. 4 overall pick (2012 draft) was a Pro Bowler as a rookie but, per Pelissero, "was a liability on the offensive line in 2014, when [Teddy] Bridgewater took over at quarterback."
Knee pain could have been the reason for the struggles although he is yet to miss a start in three seasons.
Keeping the young Bridgewater healthy is a priority in Minnesota for 2015 and the long-term future. A healthy Kalil would certainly help that happen.
