5 Best Feuds for Sami Zayn on WWE's Main Roster
Based on the reaction Sami Zayn received on Raw and the match that followed, the former NXT champion is going to have a great career when he finally heads to the main roster.
His bout with John Cena was likely a special occasion since WWE was in Zayn's hometown, and he still has an upcoming NXT title match with Kevin Owens, so we shouldn't expect to see him every week going forward.
According to WWE.com, Zayn underwent an MRI for a shoulder injury that happened prior to or during his match with Cena, and depending on the results, he could find himself taking some time off soon.
When he is ready to come back and WWE feels the time is right, he will make a big impact. His popularity and skill set are well documented, but it's his passion that will set him apart from the rest.
The roster is full of talented wrestlers who could have some incredible matches against Zayn. This slideshow will look at some of the better candidates. This is not a ranked list, so they will appear in no particular order.
Cesaro
1 of 5When NXT was first finding its legs and began putting on live two-hour specials, one of the matches that caught everyone's attention was Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn.
The pure technical skill of both men led to one of the most revered bouts in NXT history, and to have them do battle on the main roster would give a much larger group of fans a chance to see the kind of magic they can create.
This took place back when Cesaro was still trying to be a vicious heel, but instead of playing his usual devious self, he chose to show Zayn respect after the match was over.
This is the kind of showdown many never thought we would see in a WWE ring three years ago. To see El Generico and Claudio Castagnoli do battle seemed like a pipe dream.
When Zayn finally makes his way to the main roster permanently, it would be a crime not to put him back in the ring with the Swiss Superman.
Daniel Bryan
2 of 5This might seem like a matchup that would please hardcore indy wrestling fans, but it's also a combination that would equal money on any card.
Daniel Bryan is regarded as one of the greatest technical wrestlers in WWE today, and if anyone can keep up with him every step of the way, it's Sami Zayn.
These two faced off in a poorly lit gymnasium before either of them ever made it to WWE, and they still managed to put most WWE matches to shame.
Both have come a long way since they fought on the indy scene, and seeing what kind of magic they could produce in a WWE ring would be a thrill for any wrestling fan.
The great thing about this pairing is that you wouldn't necessarily have to turn one of them heel to make it work. The quality of their wrestling would be enough to sell the program.
Watch the included video to see how good they were eight years ago, and then think about how much better they would be today.
Sheamus
3 of 5
Ever since he returned after WrestleMania, Sheamus has been on a mission to take out any and all Superstars who could be considered underdogs.
Another former NXT champion who found himself in the Irishman's crosshairs was Neville, and he is still embroiled in a feud with the Celtic Warrior.
Zayn seems like a perfect choice to be added to the list of wrestlers Sheamus despises because of his size and the fact that he is so popular with the crowd.
He has barely been exposed to the mainstream audience, and he still managed to get one of the biggest pops on Monday. That speaks to the type of connection he has with the audience.
Zayn has shown he can wrestle people of all different shapes and sizes while producing top-notch matches, and putting him in the ring with a competent brawler like Sheamus would definitely lead to some memorable moments.
Seth Rollins
4 of 5
Like Cesaro and Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins would make a great opponent for Zayn mostly due to his technical expertise.
When Rollins was working as Tyler Black on the indy scene, he crossed paths with Zayn's El Generico character a few times, but they never had an extended program.
Rollins is already one of the best heels WWE has at its disposal, and there is little doubt Zayn will become one of the most popular babyfaces when he moves to the main roster.
Putting them together just makes sense. Their styles complement each other very well, and the kind of matches they could put together would steal the show any night of the week.
It might be awhile before we see Zayn brought up to the main roster properly, and when it finally does happen, he needs to be put in the ring with guys like Rollins to show what he is truly capable of.
Neville
5 of 5Arguably the greatest feud to take place in NXT was between Zayn and Neville. These two had several incredible encounters, most of which were for the NXT Championship.
These two were tailor-made for each other. They can both fly through the air, take the fight to the mat and strike with the best of them.
The fact that both men were babyfaces made the program even more interesting because fans were split down the middle on who to cheer for. Everyone had their favorite.
Bringing this feud to the main roster would give fans a small taste of what makes NXT so great, and it would also lead to some insanely entertaining matches.
The reason behind the program could be as simple as Neville still holding resentment for Zayn ending his title reign, or WWE could start the storyline over with something fresh. Either way, everyone wins if these two end up in the ring again.
These five Superstars would all make ideal opponents for Sami Zayn, but there are many others. Who would you want to see him feud with when he makes the move to the main roster?
