Kyle Farnsworth, Ex-MLB Pitcher, Playing Professional Football in Florida
Longtime MLB relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth was one of the most competitive players you will ever see on the mound. Now, he's using that aggression on the gridiron while playing in the Florida Football Alliance, a minor league football organization.
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times noted the 39-year-old is currently suiting up for the Orlando Phantoms as a defensive lineman and is enjoying his new endeavor.
He's playing pretty well, too.
The league's official site highlights the fact he ranks 10th in tackles with 41 and second in sacks with 11. He leads his team in both categories. That's not bad for somebody who was pitching in the major leagues as recently as last season with the New York Mets and Houston Astros.
His baseball career spanned 16 seasons with nine different teams. He often showcased electric stuff, striking out 963 batters in 988.2 career innings. According to eFastball.com, Farnsworth's fastball topped out at 100.1 mph on April 23, 2010.
Now, he's bringing the heat on the football field.
