Ronaldo 'Struggling with Some Back Pain'

Tuesday, May 5

J. I. Garcia-Ochoa of Marca reported prior to kick-off that Ronaldo "underwent physio on the field after struggling with some back pain" on Monday. He suggested the Portuguese star was seen "trying to stretch the problem area" and was attended to by one of the club's physios.

However, the issue did not stop Ronaldo starting for Madrid and scoring in a 2-1 loss.

Ronaldo has now netted nine goals in the competition this season, making him joint leading goalscorer with Luiz Adriano, as reported by WhoScored.com. Madrid are hoping to progress to the Berlin-based final, where they would meet either Barcelona or Bayern Munich in the showpiece event.

Los Blancos warmed up for Tuesday's match in Turin with a 3-2 win over Sevilla, a fixture which saw Ronaldo net a hat-trick. His goals lifted his tally above 50 across La Liga and the Champions League this season, per WhoScored.

He struggled with a back concern in August 2014 and previously suffered with knee problems as last season drew to a close. At 30 years old Ronaldo is perhaps growing more susceptible to pulls and strains, so he will need to be monitored closely by Madrid's medical staff.
