Best Hair in Sports Right Now

Laura DeptaMay 5, 2015

Last year, a list of the best hair in sports would have included Andrew McCutchen—no doubt about it. But that's the thing about hair—it's always changing.

What does it mean to have great hair in sports? Well, really, it just means styles that act as conversation starters—it could be a clean-cut fade like Cristiano Ronaldo's, or it could be Sideshow Bob-esque locks like Robin Lopez's. Either way, these heads of hair should get people talking.

Jacob deGrom

1 of 13

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom had a breakout year in 2014, and so did his flowing mass of hair. He told Steve Serby of the New York Post, "I don't think I care about the hair as much as people think I do. It's just kind of there." Yes, and it's awesome.

James Harden

Houston Rockets guard James Harden may not have won the 2014-15 NBA MVP Award, but he's certainly winning the hair game. It's a mohawk and an epic beard, and he owns it.

Carlos Gomez

Carlos Gomez recently showed off the most boss haircut we've seen in a while. The Milwaukee Brewers outfielder debuted a gladiator-inspired fade via Instagram in April.

Tim Lincecum

Yes, San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum just chopped off his signature locks once again, but I sort of dig it. Sure, it's short, but you could make the argument that it's an improvement. Besides, it definitely got people talking.

Sen'Derrick Marks

Sen'Derrick Marks of the Jacksonville Jaguars recently took a young cancer patient to her high school prom. So not only is he a fearsome defensive tackle and a really sweet guy, but he's also got some of the NFL's best hair.

Cristiano Ronaldo

6 of 13

Cristiano Ronaldo is pretty much the picture of perfection—best soccer player in the world, chiseled body and always with the impeccably styled hair. In fact, I don't know if the man has ever had a bad hair day.

Robin Lopez

7 of 13

Robin Lopez of the Portland Trail Blazers has a haircut you cannot miss. Sure, it looks a little like Sideshow Bob's get-up, but it sure is talked about. At minimum, it's a good way to tell him apart from his twin brother Brook, a center for the Brooklyn Nets.

Danica Patrick

8 of 13

Danica Patrick consistently proves athletes can be tough as nails and still look beautiful. Patrick navigates the grueling waters of NASCAR like the pro she is, and somehow her hair always looks good.

Jayson Werth

9 of 13

It's hard to have a sports hair list without putting Jayson Werth of the Washington Nationals on it. When describing the outfielder's hair, it's mostly sufficient to just say he has a lot of it. His hair even has its own Twitter account, and in 2014, a Nationals minor league affiliate gave away 1,000 Werth bobbleheads with realistic-looking beards—well, you know, realistic for a bobblehead.

Nerlens Noel

10 of 13

At 6'11", Nerlens Noel of the Philadelphia 76ers doesn't need any more height. Still, his iconic flattop haircut must add at least a few inches. Plus, it reminds us of the Fresh Prince, so, winning.

Bryce Harper

11 of 13

Bryce Harper has never been shy about his hair. This year, he's rocking a versatile yet stylish look—sometimes a man bun, sometimes whatever a long-hair mohawk is called. Oh, and he's not shy about doing the hair flip either.

Rusney Castillo

12 of 13

Talk about a conversation starter. Rusney Castillo of the Boston Red Sox debuted this killer mohawk at spring training, and it's just awesome. Nothing else to say.

Minnesota Hockey

A lot of NHL players have great hair, especially this time of year, so it's hard to choose just a couple of guys.

Instead, let's honor the high school hockey players in Minnesota, who have an annual tradition of determining the best hair in the state. This year's video features a mullet, something called a "hornet's nest" and a comparison to Fabio. All in all, just an epic compilation of great hockey hair.
